Broken DA* 50-135mm... Screwed $800?

Hey guys,
So a while back I have sold a lens to a member here on the forum and she received it broken. Sending it via UPS and not recalling buying insurance, neither of us asked UPS to pay the money for the lens. (This was during the summer). I sent the lens to CRIS Cam under warranty and have just now received an estimate for "Damages beyond repair" and "Special Pentax replacement" of $800. Don't really know what to do. It's impossible for UPS to reimburse me now. Any suggestions as to what to do? Very stressful... I guess the new computer for Christmas will have to be postponed again...

Responded to all PMs. FA 35mm is hooked. Also corrected price on the FA 35mm to $350. Sorry on my error.

I hope so. The Canon world is overly expensive, heavy, and boring.

Generous friends and luck actually. Sad thing is, since the camera is technically not mine (Can't sell to buy Pentax equipment), I have to keep it. Might as well get Canon lenses with a Canon body if I can't sell it.

Although, something tells me I won't like my journey in Canon world before I've even started. Might come back if Rioch does anything interesting with Pentax.

Surprisingly, I got in possession of a 5D Mark II (for free...it's hard to refuse) so now the Pentax system has to go. I need all of this to be gone by the 25th for a trip to China. Please give me a zipcode for your shipping estimate. (I think for everythingwill be $10 shipping though for CONUS)

FA 35mm f/2 $330 was $350
This lens was the one that was always on my camera no matter what. Great image quality, fast, and fast AF. Basically in like new condition with a few scratches here and there. Only thing is the serial number sticker is gone, but it was gone before I got it (it is on the serial card though). Original box and papers are included. Got it from a member here on the forum. This is the only lens that does NOT come with a usable hood as a friend knocked it off the table and stepped on it Christmas day. However it does come with a Hoya HMC UV filter ($20). Replacements are also available on BHphoto with the link below.
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/203180-REG/Pentax_34796_PH_RB49_Lens_Hood_49mm.html

Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 HSM II $650 was $750
This lens I got mint condition from ebay just a few weeks ago. Besides mount wear (since the Sigma mount is bigger than the Pentax mount), the lens is in mint condition. Lens is sharp despite the doubts I had before buying it. Original box and papers are included.

* As of 7/17, I found some type of staining (Little white speckles, but can't possibly be fungus) on the 2nd element of the lens. Does not affect image quality, however, I am selling it at a reduced price.*

DA* 50-135mm $740
Since the first deal I had with this lens didn't go well, I'm reposting it. The lens is currently at CRIS camera for an SDM replacement and clean up.
I am the original owner absolutely loved this lens. Took it around the world, shot everything possible with it and the results were always amazing. Had the SDM motor replaced a few months ago and the papers from CRIS will come with the camera along with all the original stuff like box, pouch, Also will throw in the Hoya HMC UV filter with it ($40). All original papers and boxes will be included.
I'll be posting the pictures in the next week or so!
PM for more pictures/details or e-mail at glxcomp@yahoo.com
Thanks!
NOTE* After close inspection, there is one minor fault with the lens. The golden DA* logo has a tiny dent. It's so small that you can't tell unless you inspect it closely, but for those of you who want pictures, feel free to ask for them.

GX-10+ 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 kit $220 SOLD
The GX-10 has been beaten up and you can tell. It has plenty of scratches/dents. The biggest problem though is the top plate (Where it says "Samsung") was knocked clean off once while I was trying to take a self portrait on a windy day. It's super glued back. Looks ugly, but still functional (With no weather sealing probably). The 18-55mm also has a lot of damage with an unoperable filter thread, but the glass itself is clean. Also comes with original boxes and papers. Before the accident, both were perfectly clean. I got this from ebay 2 years ago. For those of you who don't know, this is a Samsung clone of the Pentax K10D.

As for items to trade: Canon 70-200mm L USM f/2.8 and the Canon 50mm f/1.4 USM.

For specific questions: I will try to answer them the best I can, but I won't be able to confirm anything or take pictures of anything til I get back to Houston on the 15th. Wish me luck in the Canon world >_<

Send it in for repair (CRIS cam will fix it free if still under warranty). Probably focusing clutch is getting stuck at infinity.

Leaps and bounds better? Cause if the K10D is pretty bad, how much better is it?

Just wish this thing could focus FASTER so I could save my money D:

I'm not spanish but I think the 2nd test with the K-5 is focus priority. Can anyone confirm that? Google Translate gives some vague stuff. :X

Battle of the Flagships: Olympus E-5, Pentax K5, Canon 7D, Nikon D300s: Which is Better? at The Phoblographer

I thought this was a nice review of all of the top APS-C sensor cameras out there, excluding the D7000, for those of you that are deciding on a dSLR.

K5 as a Nikon d300s/7000 alternative

This is biased towards the Pentax. In my opinion, the buffer size depends on your style of shooting whether or not a con (and according to high speed shooting figures for both cameras, I would hardly call it half). The Nikon also has more options for the AF system (which is also still ahead of the Pentax). The button layout imo, although strange, should be the user's call. Many people think the D7000 has a logical layout and it's all user preference and getting used to.

Although as for weather sealing and my trusty money saving, image recovering image stabilization, K-5 wins. :)

My biggest gripe with the 60-250mm is the expense and slow AF. Why pay $1400 for a lens when the AF isn't up to speed for it's use? (Slower than my DA* 50-135mm). I love the way Pentax has done their lens lineup, but they need to do something about the SDM motors in their high end lenses. Why is it that all the lenses I'm looking forward to getting hindered by the slow AF motor? For small primes, I love screw mount cause it saves space/weight in the lens and makes my set up more compact.

Canon 7D vs Pentax K-5: A comparison
Posted By GLXLR

Although true, the 645D has a far bigger sensor than anything Nikon or Canon has put forth, it has a lot of differences and it can't be considered comparable to full frame cameras from those companies.
1. The camera, although has great image quality, does not compare to the high ISO capabilities of the D3s/ Mark IVs, even the D3X and Mark III.
2. The camera so far has two lenses available. Although someone might argue there are a ton of legacy lenses available, not many people are looking to have a large amount of their lens collection be legacy lenses (screw mount AF or some without AF).
3. Much heavier than full frame, and one of the reasons many of us shoot Pentax is specifically for it's lighter bodies. True, it is the nature of Medium format to be heavier (and the Pentax is excellent in this regard) but since we are comparing to full frame I have to include this.

Although personally never shooting one before, I feel as if the 645D is a niche camera and not a camera targeted at the full frame competition between Nikon and Canon (and now Sony).

Feel like this review is highly biased towards the Pentax K-5... is it just me? Cause the 7D is no slouch in ergonomics and it definitely feels thought out and not clunky like the review suggests.

Pentax SDM Converter, are you serious interested?

Don't think it'd be useful or of much interest at all until SDM lenses are replaced with ultrasonic auto focusing motors. Considering the speed of SDM autofocus, I doubt many would be interested in slowing the autofocus even further.

Or any zoom lens with some type of ultrasonic focusing motor...

That's what I'm waiting for, anyways. Was looking into switching to Nikon simply for that, but then I remembered the limiteds+ ergonomics. :)

Too expensive and uses a completely different mount. It's almost like switching brands if you wanted to "upgrade" so I don't consider that a pro body dSLR... more of a special niche camera.
