Pentax K-7, can you go wrong?

Essentially the same body, a few less pixels and definitely more noise as ISO goes up. Its sensor is Samsung not Sony, but below iso1600 it's an excellent camera. With modern processing I expect you could push it a bit higher, but some people are very sensitive to noise while others shrug and play on..

I'm finding the 20Mpx K-s2 to be good in all respects but the solenoid, so my lenses have adapted to M-mode imaging. I miss the K-7/5/3 styling and buttons, but I'm doing fine for results.

I go with opticallimits' evaluation of fujiX and μ43 lenses, where auto corrections for vignetting and distortion are often massive. Various levels of IQ compromise are introduced, which AI can fix to some degree. A dSLR has those corrections available too, but older lenses cannot send any corrections.

Not a big deal to many.. but it's why I have Pentax and Olympus kits. If I ever do video the eM1 will do decent work and is fully stabilized, the Pentax can do still images mostly subject to my preferred corrections, and elder K lenses cover much of both kits.

Welcome! The ME Super was my gateway to Pentax also, back in the early 80s.
I've been alternating allegiance with µ43 at times, now have a bit of both. I also have a K100d, not the Super in this case - so no SDM contacts :( but a great cam regardless.

Question Thread proposal

I was thinking of starting a thread to "show images taken with defective-solenoid bodies". People from elsewhere visit here and only see the gripes about recent tier-2 bodies, and a thread showing the malady isn't fatal might be a good thing.

Since it crosses the boundaries in the specific camera forums, I wasn't sure if it has a good landing place; perhaps a sticky link from all the K>29 and K-Sx categories? Or perhaps something similar is already here, hiding in plain sight?

Anyway, I thought the idea should go to the mods first. My sick K-S2 has been great fun to use with aperture rings and the KAF4 55-300, and people need to hear that more often!

Thanks for the team's consideration.

What Lens Do You Use the Most?

The HD 55-300re wins overall most-used for now. For primes, M85/2 then a close race between A28/2.8 and an old Sigma 50/2.8 mf macro.

My sick solenoid sidelines all DA types at the moment; I swapped the 35 ltd macro for the sigma 50 plus "future considerations" i.e. cash.

The S5 and its dual-gain sensor is a real gem.
I must win a lottery.. assuming I ever start playing.

Thanks for visiting us!

I run k-s2 and eM1, and use my old manual primes on both systems (A28, A50, M85, M135, A200) along with Oly 14-150ii, Pentax F17-28 fisheye & HD55-300 zooms. Fun times, and both bodies stabilized and wx resistant.

One of my favorite features on Pentax is the ability to crop on playback to all four 'modern' ratios - including 4:3! :)

Welcome! I've been using Pentax and/or m4:3 for many years. I'm currently using K-s2 + eM1. I'm a big fan of the k-5 series, but the K-s2 has a few nice bonus features and only a small step down on battery size and overall build/feel.

Love the K primes, on either body!

I have a pile of nikon lenses that haven't moved at the café, perhaps I'll let a local shop see them on my way to goodwill. Even run-of-mill Pentax lenses move fairly well when I look at the shopgoodwill site.

How many lenses do you have?

Primary list: F17-28, Σ50/2.8 macro, 55-300re/hd/plm/&c, M85/2, M135/3.5, A200/4.
Reserves: A28, A50/2+1.4, 18-50re/wr. Also Rikenon XR 70-150/4, Focal 80-200/3.5 and Σs 28-80 + 100-300.

My K-s2's sick solenoid sidelines the DA lenses (35 Ltd, 18-50, 50-200) but kaf4 on the 55-300 is good to go :)
Circumstances would dictate which 50 comes out to play, but three is at least one too many considering it's not my favorite FL on aps.C.

List excludes several µ43 lenses, but many of the smc/x primes play over there!

While I really like the DA35 Limited for many reasons, it won't play fair with my Ks2 +sick solenoid. While seeking 50mm macros I found a steal on a 'rough' manual focus Sigma. The only thing rough about it is the sides of the aperture ring where I get a grip! Paid about $30, and it has the 'A' setting when the body is healed and can automate the aperture again. Review score here is 9.07.

as always, pardon the phone camera it's cr@p

A fine rainbow. Some of the options are rather hideous - though I do recall seeking a K-s1 in the bronze. Pentax had a more poetic name for it that I can't recall :D
I did once have a full-on red K50 with matching 18-55.. couldn't lose it even if I had tried.

The increased automation has increased my appreciation for dumb primes with limited body communication. No preset correction of lens flaws, just light on sensor and I'm in control. That applies even more to the micro43 stuff ..but my K-s2 also has all its corrections set to OFF. And a "bad" solenoid to ensure it's on me :)

Well ok I do have a 55-300plm now, still some automation in play :o

Just curious. Now that electronics control the aperture, the mechanical expenses to add K mount are gone, it's just software and/or a couple of wiring changes in the mount.
It always sounds easy from my couch, though :)

My Pentax legacies are the A50/1.4 + 200/4, and M85/2 + 135/3.5. I also have a loose copy of the A28/2.8, VG- condition at best. All the others are in EX or better condition.

I also have my golden oldie, the Rikenon XR 70-150/4. I've looked into that many Tokina a time or two, but my 300+ tele needs are rare. A Hanimar 400/6.3 could be pressed into service, assuming I know where it is!

Either a waste of time, or a steal: amz warehouse had a 55-300re/plm for about $200. I'll bite.

It's in Acceptable condition with damaged box and cosmetic marks; I look thru 'em more than at 'em, so if it works then yippee!

Edit/update: A STEAL.
The box is ugly.. I care not.

I let the Fuji experiment end for good, and will do very well with K-s2, eM1 and zs100. My F17-28 and primes bypass the defective solenoid until I find the will to do the surgery and let the A/DA lenses play along.

I spent the past week snaking out the kitchen sink, swapping out the disposal and reworking the plumbing beneath. Ended it with a chiropractor visit, snap crackle pop.

Think I'm almost ready for the Ks2 solenoid surgery! :)

In the meantime I do have plenty of old-school lenses that do nice work, from the 17-28 fisheye to the A200/4. My DA lenses are getting impatient though..

I blame my high-school teacher for my Economics degree, he was that way also.

I'm pre-reading a copy of Farilane by Michael J Sullivan. His fantasy world of Elan is well grounded and his characters are really enjoyable. Their conversations are very real, down to earth but not crude or raunchy - and often hilarious. He's a self publisher and he gives advance e-book copies to Kickstart supporters. Everyone else waits until June, I think.

Picked up an off-brand (Pixco/Roxsen) PK->µ43 adapter. Definitely makes for some friendly focal lengths with my 50/85/135 now capable of 36, 60 and 96mm with an extra stop of light. Since the 200/4 becomes ~140/2.8 it's hardly worth the work, as the 135/3.5 is a tiny marvel on µ43 bodies with a hollow adapter.

Also gives the F17-28 fisheye new life as a 12-20/2.5-3.5 zoom  a bit more speed than my old 9-18 Oly and 8/3.8 fisheye for sky shots!
And the XR Rikenon 50-105/2.8 is nice too :)

K-5iis ~14Kclicks, 18-50RE WR, K100d body

Asking Price
425.00 USD

Item Location
Longview/Kelso (United States)

Item Description
In order to 'make' me do the K-s2 surgery the K-5 IIs needs to go away :p It's in EX condition with 14158 clicks as of today. Comes with body cap and charger. $290

The 18-50 is weather resistant and makes a very small companion with the K-5. It has the usual hesitation when retracting, I just nudge the front edge to get it started. More durable than it feels and takes nice photos. $60

The K100 body is in EX condition everywhere else but has scuffs on the bottom. Both screens are unmarked. Shutter count 7425. $75
NOTE it's not a K100d Super, so no SDM contacts!

photos coming as soon as I find my misplaced eM1 with pics on it ..:o
