Fisheye 58mm adaptor

I have something similar which I attach to my 28mm Pentax-M, with adapters. There is a little vignetting, but this gets lost in the unusual field curvature. Not an everyday lens, by any means, but can give interesting / humorous results, depending on how you use it. Not recommended for portraits (except sometimes of animals).

Lens cap shell game

Apart from that, since generic caps are so cheap, why are Pentax (or other brand) caps so blinking expensive ? Do I replace all Pentax ones with cheap alternatives, mounting the genuine ones on some varnished mahogany for display purposes, or do I hunt high and low for genuine ones and panic every time I use the lens in case the cap gets lost ? And no, I refuse to use those dangly 'cap-keeper' things on cameras I have nurtured to look their best.

Interesting that the listing is for an empty box (which might hold a couple of bricks, one supposes ...), but the rest of the write up is for the actual camera - which, apparently, is not included. Curiouser and curiouser.

If you've not used it in 20 years, it is hardly a surprise that various components have packed up. Time for a bit of R & R (Retire and Replace).

One which always amuses me is people walking into, or tripping over, street furniture while staring intently at their 'smart'phone. Obviously smarter than they are - and probably smarter than the average bear.

Maybe a little OTT, but at least once a month I give all the lens and body contacts a wipe with an old LFC moistened with IPA, just to make sure. I also clean the UV filters with glasses cleaner wipes, polishing them with another LFC, and I am not averse to cleaning contacts in the field if it is a lens I don't use often. So far, no issues.

@Clackers, I am in my late sixties, and rode my first competetive events (massed start, time trial, track, hill-climb and yes, cyclo cross) from when I was fourteen onwards, before health issues intervened. I have no desire to enter an argument with you - let us just agree to differ on this matter.

I accept this, but in the winter light levels are low, apart from any inclement weather (for which cyclo-cross is notorious). The events are, of necessity, 'off road', and frequently go through wooded areas, and it is the difference between the illumination to which the eye has become accustomed, and the sudden bright flash, that I feel could be an issue.

Check out this Video, then ask if you would appreciate a flash being used at close quarters in these conditions.

I keep one with Trebor Extra-Strong mints in, as the paper packaging is non moisture-proof, and also disintegrates when stuffed into a pocket. I tell people the mints are Horse Tranquilizers ...

I would beg to differ - the OP specifically stated low-light conditions, so a flash, especially close-to, would be blinding. Even if the flash duration is short, the after effects on the eyeball can last for several seconds - not recommended at speed !

Recently bought circular screw-in lens hood for 35-70. (49mm thread). Had a look at it, and, although the interior is ridged, an oblique light clearly showed up hot spots. Wondered whether matt black paint would help, then had an idea. Having some self-adhesive 'hook and loop' tape in stock, I cut a length of the 'hook' tape, which has a matt appearance, to fit the interior of the hood, stuck it carefully round the affected area, trimmed off the excess with a craft knife, and checked again with the light. Seems to work, but I'll have to give it a proper test in daylight and with streetlights around just to make sure.
