I bought two from Amazon at this price; one silver and one black. The black one arrives tomorrow, the silver arrived last week. I am really impressed with the KP as it has surpassed expectations.

KX flash

Welcome to the Forums! The KX and k-x are two very different Pentax cameras. I'm assuming you have the k-x.

Years ago I wouldn't touch an inexpensive made-in-China flash, but over the last few years there have been some very nice, inexpensive flashes made. I have the 360 and 540 (first versions), but I have a few manual Yongnuo flashes that are fantastic. I bought 15 inexpensive Godox TT520II flashes last year and they have worked well (one has a few issues after light use, but that's not bad out of 15 $35 flashes). The Yongnuos have better build quality (and are about double the price), but the Godox flashes have built-in wireless recievers and they each came with a hot shoe transmitter.

SDXC versus Micro SDXC cards

Yes, I ask my students to never use micro cards, but every semester 10-20 students buy them and an adapter. Every semester 3-4 students have issues with micro cards failing, getting corrupted, or the adapter failing. Most issues my students get with SD cards (non-micro) are user error.

Agreed, nice catch. There is one more correction needed: The HD DA 40 has both the APS-C and FF icons. Could you please remove the "APS-C only" icon? Thanks for all the work you do.

Best wide-angle lens for K-1?

The 31 is a great wide angle prime that is hard to beat. The only problem with it is once you start using an FA Limited, you'll be forced to buy the other two because of how good they are.

No, looking at my order I used my Amazon Prime business account, not my personal Amazon account. The business account got me an additional discount.

I just ordered a silver KP from Amazon for $699. I would have loved to buy it from Adorama, but it was cheaper on Amazon.

I don't use them often, but when I do I sure like using these instead of digging through a menu.

I use the WiFi, continuous, and bracketing settings the most.

I have both the Sigma 180/3.5 and Tamron 90. Both are very different, but very good lenses. I'm surprised someone hasn't picked those up at those prices.

Dear Pentax, please, keep making screwdrive AF lenses!

They are durable and I don't have to worry about a focusing motor going out while on a shoot.

Please make affordable AF extension tubes. It's way past time you made a modern set of three tubes with data pins and a screw-drive mechanism.

$100 Charge To Photograph A Single Cow!

I'm stopped occasionally. Depending on how they approach me I have different responses. If they have attitude I stand my ground, clearly explaining rights and laws so they don't pick on photographers who might not be able to stand up for themselves. If they kindly and respectfully ask me to not photograph, I'll explain my rights and tell them because they asked politely I'll delete the photos out of respect, even though it's within my rights to keep taking photos.

I was taking blurred-motion photos of cars from a sidewalk when a car pulled over and the passenger jumped out and threatened to call the police if I didn't delete the photos with her car in them while she watched. I ignored her at first, but she got in my face and kept her hand on her cell phone, continually threatening to call the police. I finally stopped photographing and asked her to call the police so I could report her for harrassment. She stood there for another 30 minutes yelling at me about how her car was private property and I didn't have the right to photograph her. I told her her private property was traveling on a public road accessible to all. She finally left. The driver never got out of the car.

Years ago I stopped to report a driver of a stolen vehicle under the influence who had just hit a homeless man on a bicycle. I was taking photos of the damaged vehicle when a police officer came to my truck window and yelled I had no right to photograph a crime scene. I told him I was the one who reported it, and I was parked on the side of a public road where everyone could see the scene. I then told him to turn around and take a look at all the passengers in cars driving by taking pictures with their phones of him losing his temper. He reached INSIDE my vehicle, grabbed my camera, and deleted the images. I started to tell him he was way outside his responsibilities and violating my freedom when he threatened to arrest me. I stopped talking. He told me to wait there until he concluded the investigation and as he turned around, I drove away.

On a different note, many national parks with large audiences restrict tripods due to the fact they block trails and restrict traffic on designated walkways. A ranger can ask you to pack up your equipment any time they believe it is a safety issue, restricting access, or causing people to leave a marked trail.

Does that make any sense to add the Tamron 70-200, if one already has the 50-135?

We can never have enough lenses. Buy it, use it, be happy. It will be useful if you ever go FF.

Thank you for the kind comments.

Thanks. Glacier National Park is one of my favorite places I've been (and I've traveled a lot). I like 7.62s too.

Thank you. The 16-45 is quite the capable lens for this type of job.

DA 17-70 with dead SDM, Fix it or Forget it!

My Nikon 70-200 2.8 ii has been repaired more times than any of my SDM lenses, but I don't have any SDM lenses anymore. I'm going to have to send the Nikon in again because I have to wake it up by rotating the focusing ring back-and-forth several times before it starts to focus and it squeals pretty loud as the AF motor moves.

DA 50mm focusing click
Posted By builttospill

I agree with Adam. There is a click when the AF coupler from the screw drive mechanism on the lens mount of the camera first engages the lens. It should only make this clicking noise once though, unless you switch to manual focus or remove the lens. Then it will click again as the protruding slot slides into place inside the crevice of the lens focusing mechanism.
