No it didn't...but two did, thanks to the mom....Thanks!

The whole action/hunt was captured by my K-5. If you want, click the link and view as slideshow. Initially it's cheetah shots and then the hunt begins.

That's true....they brought down a wildebeest the previous evening and still has it hidden somewhere. This is their appetizer for tonight. It's five cheetah brothers.

Thank you for your compliments.

The whole hunt series is here...if you want, you can click and watch as a slideshow.

It's been a while...let's see whether this works.

Well! Couldn't link directly from Flickr...just saved it to iPad and attached. Not the preferred way.

Definitely not abstract...oh well!

softening flash light with ambient lighting

This does not address your question, however, just in case you didn't know at times the built in flash can do the triggering. With my k5 and 540 FGZ, the built in flash acts as the trigger for using 540 wireless.

Will this power pack help with recycle time for my 540 flash?

I've never really shot much with M mode, as I was concerned moving from room to room, with areas of back lit to solid walls to areas of various brightness will require too much tweaking. However, if exposure is same, it would be ideal.

I was wondering whether the Godox flash could replace the 540 in all aspects and thus the HSS concern.

But, overall I agree. Godox flash will be an excellent choice to reduce recycle time for interior shots, for those who don't rely on P-TTL much.

---------- Post added 11-19-2016 at 05:01 AM ----------

I took one wide angle shot and I was surprised how well illuminated all the subjects in the next room were. There is no way the flash alone did all of that, so ISO 1600 indeed helped there.

Noise was only an issue when I tried to crop real tight, even then only viewed on ipad etc., doubt would show up much on 5X7 prints.

Given how well ISO 1600 worked for prints, I do not want to give up on high ISO flash photography. With what you've said, good batteries with ISO 800 should give me what I need. I will up the ISO, if large areas beyond the typical reach of flash needs illuminated and see how that works.

I agree. ISO 400 was good even with k10D and I'm sure ISO 800 be fine nowadays. With my k5 id like to shoot at ISO 400 if I can, as it will allow for extreme cropping.

The lowest ISO possible is the only reasonable setting for HSS.

Thank you for the battery recommendation, Amazon is selling 2500 mAh Ni-Mh regukar Sanyo batteries.

My photos shot at ISO 1600, f8 were over exposed but easily recovered, post processing. These were printed at 5X7 only and the portraits were phenomenal. If not for flash work, frankly at 5X7 even iPhone pictures are almost as good. But with bounced flash and the reflector pulled up the portrays were extremely evenly lit for pleasing results.

5 years ago I read strobist and had diffusers (didn't really like them) and was well versed in technique. This time ISO 1600 chosen for faster recycle wasn't the ideal choice even though I got stellar results. I will try ISO 400-800 once I get the new batteries and see. For now, will skip on the battery pack, as the expenses doesn't justify the very infrequent use.

Thanks, that's helpful. I've wondered why flash the batteries were still needed.

Thanks! You do make a good point about the extra weight and size.

---------- Post added 11-17-2016 at 06:58 AM ----------

hmmm! I am spoiled with P-TTL and looks like this offers HSS only with Canon, is that true?

---------- Post added 11-17-2016 at 07:00 AM ----------

6 sec sounds about right at around iso 200-400, which was slow and I bumped it to iso 1600 and was much shorter (max 2 sec)

Thank you all. I contacted the Amazon vendor who contacted the manufacturer and confirmed the Godox 960 and quantum CN3 cable will work with the flash.

It's been at least 5 years since I've looked into theses. The last time I checked eneloops were recommended, do you have any recommendations?

---------- Post added 11-17-2016 at 04:10 AM ----------

It looks like the link you provided is the same kit as my second option

FB-4

That's only $40. Can you tell me how it compares to the Pentax and whether it actually reduces recycle time by 50%?

My understanding is these might just prolong battery life, only specific models which I think had higher voltage or some other parameter are the only ones that reduces recycle time. I remember many saying 5 years ago the Pentax one just increased battery life.[COLOR="Silver"]

I have the old style 540, so it should have an input for high voltage battery pack. I am looking for faster recycle time. I used ISO 1600 to achieve faster recycle, but would like to lower it. I am not a pro, but infrequently shoot family events and I hate having to wait for the flash to recycle.

Will this combo work? Both offered through Amazon. Godox 960 and Quantum CN3 cable. The battery pack has Lithiom ion batteries so doesn't have memory and can be partially charged.

This past thread helped me. Just want to confirm it will speed up recycle time. Also, any cheaper equally good alternatives?

Dave,

These are phenomenal images, they are so pleasing to look at.

To be technical, they cannot get any better. The composition is top notch, you've got a great eye. The exposure is spot on, The dynamic range is unreal.

Thank you for sharing, I really enjoyed them. It looks like the light and the clouds were on your side, and with your skills, youve created something extra ordinary. Well done!

Easy, DA21 and FA43. FA43 is the best lens I've ever used and with the 21 will be a nice pocketable combo. I prefer the 21 focal length to the 15. In fact in a few months once I switch systems these will be the only two lenses for me in Pentax.

I had the Pentax 80-320, and it was quite a decent lens. You might be interested in this thread I had started, it has samples from my 80-320 and other inexpensive tephoto lenses.

What I meant is, I've never encountered a lens that was sharp for distant objects and then being not sharp for close subjects, only the reverse.
