Thanks. Not sure if I'll be posting much, just found out Flickr is only allowing 1000 photos now, which means I'm about to lose over 600, no idea where to find other hosting options, fickr has been a PITA after their changes the last time I used it anyway...of course that was 2 years ago, no telling how much worse it is now...but I'll be checking in now and then anyway.

I haven't been around for quite a while, but maybe more these days...

dlh - The "yellow things behind the Chicory" is Coreopsis. Very common where I Live, and way too big for this, the Tiny Flowers thread, so is Chicory. Most of these probably are, please try to limit your submissions to anything smaller than a dime. Some of the very small white ones in the middle picture might be more like what this thread is about, they look a little like some very small flowers here in Texas but I can't be sure.
I haven't been around for quite a while, so I haven't been keeping up, no internet, but I may be able to check in a bit more often these days. The idea for this thread is the smallest flowers you can find.
Actually I'm surprised it's still running...3 years now? I don't know, I've slept since then...

Sorry but I screwed up. It's actually Texas Toadflax, not Vervain, don't know why the wrong name popped into my head. It's still blooming here in my wildflower patch too.

I think I found it. Have them in the yard and up the street on the morning bike ride. I think its a type of vervain, same ones I see here. Can't find a picture right now not sure if tablet will do 2 tabs. Not good with it yet. Check this thread I should have some from a while back.

Sorry, don't know what that one is and don't have my flower book with me. I'll look through a couple of books and see if anything jumps out at me.
If you can get a wider shot with some of the leaves too, that might help.
By the way I think I see a couple of sensor spots at bottom left.

I just got a PM from photolady, sorry I wasn't around.
I've been using a binocular lens for macro work since 2010 or so. I took the objective lens off a pair of junk binoculars, it fits snugly on a 50mm lens with 49mm filter ring, and works quite well. Focusing distance is rather close, 6 inches or so, and image quality is very good. Here's an example, if i can get the new Flickr link to work...
I use extension tubes a lot too, with a 135mm lens. You can also get teleconverters fairly cheap and remove the glass, instant extension tube.
I can't find my picture of the binocular lens rig ready to go, but it just slips onto the front of the lens, the rubber covering grips well enough it rarely falls off. As with any form of macro photography the depth of field is pretty slim, otherwise it's about the same as shooting without it, but I have to use a card to reflect the flash downward if I use flash.

You get a K1 in the mail and we just get bills...it ain't fair!
Hummers are still here, I had at least 5 in the yard yesterday. These shots are from a couple of days ago, right outside the back door.
Might have posted some of these already, can't remember. CRS is hitting me had this morning... IMGP80975 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr IMGP80955 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr IMGP80926 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr

Macro of a flower..ok how about two flowers? Henbit, about the size of a match head. 135mm lens and extension tubes, I think about 55mm of tubes. IMGP65498 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr
Another macro, this time of an insect.

Got me digging into the old pictures...
Anhinga. Almost identical to a Cormorant, but the Cormorant has a turned down crook at the tip of the bill. Anhinga has a straight bill. anhinga-P105029 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr
Ruby Throated Hummingbirds around my feeder in 2013, end of summer during migration. I had about 8 or 9 crowding around 2 feeders. IMGP31715 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr
Snowy Egret egret_f11-P108662 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr
Can we use a butterfly here? I don't think it was specified. Will remove if requested. IMGP34524 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr
White Pelicans on a foggy day, I'm pretty sure the previous pelicans shown were Brown Pelicans. I'm sure the shot posted by Riggomatic was a Brown Pelican. I never see those here, only on the coast. White Pelicans migrate here every winter. IMGP43104 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr
Woodduck drake. IMGP46024 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr
OK enough for now, I should have plenty for this thread, I concentrate mostly on birds.

That's why I got it. I had the 4 port type in your picture, still have about 3 of them, but every time I try to take pictures they hide on the back side and I get nothing. So I got these and haven't used the larger ones in 3 or 4 years. Works perfect, they only have one place to go. I get these at the dollar store. I had to twist the wire hanging this one so it would hang in a different direction, it got no eye reflection at first. I made up an angle iron hanger 15 years ago when I was a machinist, put it right outside the kitchen window. Another feeder just like it is on the clothesline about 30 yards away.
Today I got some shots of one I think is an immature male with his first couple of red feathers turning, haven't uploaded them to the computer yet though. I think these are the young ones staying around till they have to migrate, happens every year. Did see a mature male today too but no pictures, he left too quick. I can stand 6 feet away at the back door, 135mm lens works great, 2:30PM I get full sunlight. I hope to have the new shots uploaded tomorrow, I forgot today.

Red wasps are the ones that give me trouble. Rupert's second picture is the guy I see here ever day, one got me yesterday mowing. His first picture is a different variety of paper wasp, we have a 3rd one around here too, with parallel horizontal bands on the abdomen. The red wasps ( a variety of paper wasp) are very aggressive, I've seen them sting for no reason at all, just walk by and ZAP... Red wasp | Entomology | University of Arkansas
I got into a nest of these when I was about 14. My father and I decided to float along a lake within shotgun range of the bank hunting squirrels. (Don't tell Otis!) One paddle, two of us, two life jackets and two shotguns...I floated into a briar bush. Ouch...pulled it away from my coat and carried on. A few minutes later I floated into another. Reached around to pull it away, nothing there. And another one hit me. So I looked...and found a red wasp nest bigger than a dinner plate a foot from my face. We skeedaddled...I was paddling with my shotgun...
So when we finally got back to the bank and our camp, I was not in great shape. Glad I'm not allergic, I wouldn't be here. I stopped counting at 56 stings. Face, neck, ears, up my sleeves and pants legs, down the front of my shirt, pretty much everywhere but inside my underwear...fortunately...Felt pretty sick the next day but no serious problem, got over it in a day and luckily I've never been stung that many times again, but have gotten 2 or 3 at once a few times.
Sometimes you have to distrub these guys, sometimes you only have to walk by too close. I use WD 40 and a Bic lighter to get rid of them...makes a great flamethrower. Make sure you light the lighter FIRST...the WD 40 will make it refuse to light. Then you're in trouble...Don't ask me how I found out
