I left these as big as flickr would let me.

no pp done, and these are the consistent results. f4, 1/30s with tripod and 2 sec timer.

before

after making +200 adjustment

maybe its user error but I have been noticing soft focus, which is why I tested it.

I used this chart http://www.k10dbook.com/newchart.pdf and at around f3.5-4 the top half of the chart will be in focus and the bottom wont be at all. I will post some images in a few. I also used the sun to my back with good lighting.

I had a feeling that my K100D was back focusing with the kit lens, and after a few different tests, I determined that it was. So I used the debug menu and found that an adjustment around +200 seemed to correct the issues. Now the problem that I have is that my Pentax M 50mm 1.7 front focuses while using the catch in focus. Obviously this problem makes sense, but I'm wondering if the issue is with my body or the DA 18-55mm.

I do not have another AF lens to test with. I'm probably not going to send anything in to Pentax because I bought the K100D fairly cheap, and I would use the "repair" money towards another body if that is the case. I know that the K100D doesnt have the option to make an adjustment based on each different lens, so any adjustment I make will have the same effect on each lens.

I guess my question is, is it worth picking up another used kit lens to test or is my K100D the issue in this case?

Then I would just pick up a 18-55 kit lens for ~ $50.

If it was a pixel issue it would be more uniform. That definitely looks like dust or debris on the sensor.

Thanks. I understand theres no detail in the foreground. Basically what I was asking is if the foreground being completely underexposed works more than say cropping it out. Sorry if I was unclear.

Thanks for your input. Like I said though, the foreground was "ugly". I could have done HDR but I didnt want detail in the foreground at all.

Fullsize Here

Basically I thought the clouds looked amazing, but my issue is with the foreground. I'm unsure if a crop would be better or what. I could bring up the exposure in the foreground, but it really isnt very aesthetically pleasing so I'm wondering if it being underexposed works here.

Thanks

Yeah, I dont know if your zoom would work though. My 50mm has an aperture ring so I can keep it wide open.

Its fine, why wouldnt it be? Its like a reversing ring with a tube. Hell, all I do as of right now is hold my 50mm 1.7 up to my kit lens backwards for macros.

its not great but its also free

i would give it a rub down with lysol wipes(not the glass, just the body mostly) and keep letting it sit. I also think that the more you use it the more the smoke smell will go away.

I really feel for you, so I hate to say this but: My dad had a '70 pontiac gto grill sent to him via ups. It is quite large, the box was about 5ft tall. Well it was left on our porch looking like absolute shit. Turns out it got a nice big dent too.

Filed a complaint with ups, but like you said, the seller needs to do some work too. Our seller was a lazy shit, and it took forever, im talking months to get any sort of compensation.

I realize that your parents shipped the item so you have a big edge that way, but god damn, ups sucks.

Good luck.
