Pro! Hehe, fair enough, I think SR is always on for video on the KR isn't it? Don't suppose you know how to lock the light too? I often find when I'm videoing that the camera is constantly adjusting when sometimes I don't want it too!

How did you get interested in photography?

I think I've always liked taking pictures, but just never got round to buying a 'proper' camera.. (like other than your general sub 100 P&S or a camera phone ! )

I tend to get gadget craving every now and again, where I get it into my head that I want/'need' a new something that I usually can't afford. This usually happens with audio based stuff, but this time it was a camera :)

Although I get these cravings, I like to think I'm a careful buyer, and so spent weeks digging up information on cameras in my budget. The K-R seemed like 'the one' to me, and I've already enjoyed the benefits of old lens compatibility as I now have more than enough to play with, without spending much at all!

Bought my K-R just after christmas and loving it so far!

I go through little stages of discontentment, but I'd say I was mainly happy ! I would like to earn a bit more money, not masses more, just enough so I can live comfortably and still afford new gadgets every now and again :) .. oh and a holiday would be nice!

Good smooth action, hehe! I'm new to video, and was trying my KR out in the car with a similar sort of angle the other day. Watching my footage back I had big trouble with vibrations causing the camera footage to be horribly shaky ! I didn't try very hard to eliminate shake to be fair, just using my joby gorrila pod attached to the passenger seat (which vibrates itself so.. there's the problem!). Just wondering you used to mount the camera here?

I'd agree with Adam, although I'm guilty of videoing without a tripod sometimes!! :)

Been playing with the video a lot on my K-R too, and still very much learning myself. I would say if you have the software then maybe up the contrast a bit to bring out the difference in colours, cos I find the footage straight from the camera can come out a bit pale. It doesn't help that we can't stop the ISO from bouncing around but that's just one of the limitations we have to deal with on this cam!

Hmm indeed, a good question! I did film it in 720p but I've obviously down sized it somewhere along the way (probably just in the export from the editor)

I'm pretty new to video stuff so I will try to have another go and make a repost. I'd like to remove that annoying border too ! :P

Hehehe, it is a little rapid, but I kinda liked that (it was also a sneaky technique to cut out all the out of focus shots !!) .. I'm tempted to add voices!

I'll definitely look into covering the wind sound, sound is my background to be honest so I was just being lazy here (and also just seeing how this thing coped outside!). I think you're best off with an external mic for serious audio capture because if you're not catching wind you're going to get the sound of the camera itself but I will definitely play around with it.

Thanks for your comments.

So I wasn't too sure about the video capabilities on the K-R (I didn't buy it for that, it was just a nice extra tbh!) But I actually think this thing isn't half bad considering it's not really it's prime feature. I picked up some really cheap lenses this week (old second hand K mount) in a box for not much at all so went out to try this super paragon pmc 2 tele zoom lens on some birds at the local duck pond. I did find manually focusing outside on that little LCD screen quite taxing but I enjoyed the challenge! On board sound is obviously not brilliant, but next time I'll just take my zoom H2 out with me..

Just threw together my 'best' clips and made this video, so check it out !

Can I mount these Minolta lenses on my Pentax KR?

Yeah as I thought, I won't be going for anything overly expensive to begin with so I can't make any disastrous choices. I'm fairly happy with the 18-55 so far, but it's just sometimes I think It would be handy to have that zoom ability. I've just downloaded that program and am going to have a look what it reckons I've been up to so far! Looks like a neat idea.

Thanks!

This forum is so helpful! Come in asking one thing and then a load more advice comes you way (that's good ! :) )

I was looking at that sort of range, but to be honest I'm so new to photography I think I should probably stick to what I have for now (I only purchased my camera around 2 weeks ago!). It's hard to say what my main thing is at the moment as I'm so new to it all. I'm experimenting with everything and trying to gain a good understanding of the fundamentals of photography. I would say I'm drawn to nature photography, and I've always admired the work that nature photographers manage to capture from mid-flight birds etc, but at the same time I think I will be soon experimenting with a lot of live music shots (as that's my usual scene, but normally as the performer/technician).

From what I've read so far, it seems primes can be good for fast live stuff, due to the bang for buck quickness, but I guess the only drawback is that you're stuck at that length?

I will have a look at these, thanks! Also recommending the primes ?

Hehe, I read back my post and it sounds as though I'm asking you if the photos are yours (which I didn't mean of course as they obviously are!!) Sorry if it read that way, I meant the car :)

Thanks! I guess it could be cropped to emphasise, I made it that width to fit nicely on my facebook cover picture - got a nice camera just in time for that feature didn't I !!

How do you mean 'vintage' effect exactly, do you have an example you could link?

Tehehe.

Well sure, if you guys want to spring me the cash so I can buy both a zoom and a prime lens then I'm open for donations..

Right now I'm making do with my 18-55mm kit for close ups, and I think what I really need is some range cos I can't reach those damned birds!!

Ah that's a shame, thought there might be some adapter out there, but that explains my lack of results on searching for it! Cheers, guess I'll see if I can get any money for them and put it towards a Pentax zoom lens!

Thanks for your answer :)

Just getting into photography, have always liked taking photos but never really had a proper camera. Bought my K-R last week, this is one of my favourites so far ! I edited it in GIMP, made black and white then layered through the colour on the ladybirds. Taken with my K-R + Kit lens 18-55mm.

Can I mount these Minolta lenses on my Pentax KR?

Hi, forgive me if i'm asking a silly question (I did try running a search on here and google to see what I could find) But I can't seem to find a clear answer on this.

I was just given an old Minolta Dynax 500si which had two lenses with it a 28-80mm 1:3.5-5.6 MACRO and a Carl Zeiss Jenazoom Super 75-300mm 1:4.5-5.6 MC Macro

I assumed these wouldn't fit on my KR, and alas they don't ;) - But yeah thought it would be worth a shot as they were literally going to be thrown out!

Quick search tells me the camera and lenses have a Minolta AF mount. So question is, is possible to mount these onto a Pentax, or is there no point in trying?

Thanks for the welcome! Clown with a camera hehe - I don't think that's the stealthiest of options if you were feeling self concious :) ! But yeah, I hear what you're saying! I've just been out to the local bird reserve this morning actually, decided to get up really early - like before 7am (which is impressive for me!). I read that outside lighting can be nice before it gets too bright so though 'hey, i'll give a whirl!' There was lots of walkers about, even had a guy come up to me and ask what I was looking at and I explained that I had found a nice mushroom but had no idea what it was. He sort've tutted, and then proceeded to explain what species it was - turns out it's a 'polyspore', and on googling it, it seems he was right.

I ended up staying out for just about 4 hours and hadn't even realise the time or most the people that had passed me by. I only stopped because my battery died :(

Anyway.. should have at least some good shots I hope.. I'll post some up once I've got them uploaded!

I'm very new to photography (just got my first DSLR, a K-R last week..!), and I decided on my day off to venture into town, as I figured shooting objects in my low light flat armed with energy saving bulbs was just not pushing the camera to it's limits.. (or perhaps it was with these focusing issues i've been reading about - but then that's another argument, haha!)

I got to the town centre, which is always a busy spot, and looked around for interesting things. There's a nice clock in the middle of the market square here, and I thought 'yeah! I'll have a go at that!', but as I walked up I have to admit I felt a bit silly - which is silly I know! I decided to persist and ignore my feelings of foolishness and just snap away. I'm pretty sure there were people looking at me while I did it, but then once you're staring through your viewfinder you can almost block out the other people. I have had some practice with ignoring the public to be fair, as I've done a good bit of outside audio recording and am fairly accustomed to performing musically as well.

I usually find with any kind of public footage capture I start out feeling strange about it, but once I get going I'm all over it and I don't want to stop! My session ended up with me crouching on the pavement next to a puddle so I could get some real low perspective shots of the road trailing into the distance - I bet I looked like a right wierdo!!

I think it sort've comes down to your morals and personality combined. Deep down you'll know if you're crossing the line with what you're capturing, and that should be the decider on whether you switch on the camera or not - anything else is fair game! :-)
