Ricoh GR II Shutter Button - Full Press doesn't register at times

I've got a newer GR ll (bought March '19) and when I press the on button sometimes it doesn't come on. My wife pointed out to me when I was talking to her, that in my case, it's probably because I'm a big guy..6'3", 245 lbs. with XL meathooks for hands and my fingers are large that they often have too much surface area to operate the little buttons you find on Cell phones (have trouble with those too) and the GR ll.

So now I've been trying to hit the center of the button and I've been more successful...but that works for my copy of the GR ll. Maybe or maybe not...it's the same issue for you and your GR ll. I don't know,

I've seen few cars that are as attention grabbing as that Plymouth Superbird 'convertible'. It does turn heads I bet, wherever it shows up. I'm not sure if the colour was a Mopar colour back then. Looks like a nice paint job,

I would think that it took a fair chunk of change to modify that car.

I recall back when Superbirds and Charger Daytonas were new, we had a few of them up here...ranging from a 426 Hemi to a 2 barrel carb, 318 V8 with a 3 on the tree. The 318 when I think about it, was a basic Charger.

Outstanding photos.

I know what you mean by getting away from it all.

In an easterly direction, I'm about 90 minutes driving from the Canadian Shield and if I go north, in a few hours I'm in the Boreal forest...west.... just a few miles and I'm in the northern part of the Great Plains. It is nice to get out and experience the quiet and beauty of any of those areas. Quite lucky to live where I do.

Photokina 2020 will be missing some typical players...

Lot of bucks to set up a booth and have your people there, showing the wares of the company. A few years ago I was at a company that provides specialty aftermarket parts and services, for vehicles and while waiting for my car, a salesman for the largest new car show in my part of the country was talking to the owner manager, asking if he would be part of the show. The business owner replied that he wouldn't as he got very little business from this big consumer show, indicating that he got far more bang for his buck advertising in local community papers and online.

Having a booth is the large consumer show was not cheap, much more expensive than other opportunities for him...and it wasn't worth it...in terms of business.

Photokina is different...and I don't know how much typical biz photographic equipment manufacturers get from these shows. Perhaps that's the reason, but I don't know, just speculating.

Now I am surprised that Nikon won't be a part and to a lesser extent Leica, particularly since Photokina is a German show. Olympic...I'm not surprised.

I like it a lot.

Interesting having one apple wrapped in newspaper that shows a woman's face with the eyes peering directly at the viewer. Very creative approach.

Only one Pentax dealer left in Norway?

I buy my new Pentax stuff at a camera dealer in town. They order it from the Pentax distributor and call me when it's in. I could order camera equipment myself, but I do what I do, as I want to do my part to keep this bricks and mortar store in business, I do so as I appreciate the expertise / advice of the staff , one in particular at the store and I like having a camera store nearby that I can check out and see what's new, not from Pentax/Ricoh...but from Canikon, Fuji, etc. I'm a camera enthusiast, plain and simple.

I've been patronizing camera stores since '68 and I 'like' this tradition. I also like to keep business in town alive , if I can, particularly the businesses I like to patronize. When it comes to a camera store, I like to walk in, check out the wares...it's always been sort of a treasure trove for a gear aficionado like myself.

I could.... order everything online and I do order a lot of stuff (non camera equipment) online. But for camera equipment, it's different. In my fair burg we've gone from about 8 traditional camera stores a decade ago...to three and I'm not sure about their longevity.

I would have no hesitation ordering photography equipment online, if I lived in an isolated area. It's handy, quick and to your door...or the local post office, if you choose. Convenient.

But that's me. Others may differ. :D

"Flagship" Pentax APS-C body - available NOW...

Quite right about the depreciation of older, but excellent camera equipment. I have my old K10D (bought new in 2007), my old Km (bought new in '09) and my old K5 (bought new in '11) and they all work, all are capable of taking wonderful photos.

Partially because of what relatively little money they bring in, I haven't traded them in when I buy a newer camera. They're worth more to me as camera equipment that still works and I still use, even if it's as not as much as I once did. Think I clicked off around 55-60,000 shutter actuation's with my K10D within the first few years and..touch wood...it still works fine.

An extra camera body doesn't take up a whole lot of room and in my K10D's case at 12, going on 13 years old..if it still works well, why get rid of it ? My kids, both 30 something now, aren't interested in having traditional cameras...they like using their cell phone cameras. Maybe my grandson will develop an interest in DSLR photography and if so, he could be the recipient of some of the equipment..or eventually all of it.

I love photography and I'm still using my Pentax S1a, which I bought new in 1968. It's... an oldie, but a goldie.... as rock DJ's used to say on AM radio back when the S1a was new.

Great pix of these magnificent animals. Back in '69 I was driving through western Alberta down some old, isolated back country roads and came across some Wild horses running in a herd. Also same thing in the extreme western part of North Dakota a few years ago. Quite something to see.

What I do with my San Disk card, is that I retain the little plastic snap case they come in and use my Brother Label making machine to put a label on the case. Short...K1...K5...Km...K10D...GR.

Never a problem, works well. I shy away from markers, ball point, etc...as in my experience it either wears away or smears.

I ask myself...do I, as a Pentaxian need a new camera body ? I've got my K1, K5, K10D, Km and Ricoh GR ll. I'm happy with the stuff.

In the film era, from '68 to 2006, when it came to my Pentax cameras, I somehow made do with 3 Pentax bodies. My S1a, ES ll and K1000 (actually my wife's) and aside from some shutter work on the K10D. Yep, I had other camera makes...medium format, 35mm Rangefinder, point + shoot.

For now, I think I'm set, unless something catastrophic happens to this equipment.

Wonder if I could get a Nessie Burger and an order of chips. :D

Years ago, my wife and I were visiting relatives/touring in Great Britain and we went to the Sherwood Forest. At that time there was a take out restaurant there, with the workers dressed in forest green with Robin Hood hats on etc...and I recall I had a Friar Tuck Burger and Long John fries. I probably don't have the food names quite right as it was a long time ago and after all, I am an old geezer. But the food was good and we enjoyed the forest and the Major Oak.

Nice pix of that old French van (Renault / Citroen ?). Don't see many French vehicles over here, so it is good to see a picture of one.

Lovely background and rich colours in the pix.

I agree. I do have a K1 and I'm quite pleased with it, high ISO resolution, FF, really good AF, etc. But I also have my old K5, which I bought in 2011 and this camera is excellent...images it produces are great.

I bought a new old stock Ricoh GR ll in March of this year and I'm very pleased with it's performance. Big ASP-C sensor..16 MP something, similar to my K5...tiny, well built body, excellent lens, lots of features. When I bought it in 2019, I knew it had been 'made obsolescent' by the very recently released and improved GR lll, but even though my GR ll was introduced ...four years ago...four years ago I emphasize...in 2015...it still has top notch performance.

It is as you say...' perfectly capable gear' and I feel it will serve me well for a number of years...whilst aging rapidly.... technology wise over these next years. It's still a very effective bit of photographic gear, just like my K5 and going back even further...my old K10D.

---------- Post added 09-11-19 at 10:30 AM ----------

Exactly, Dan.

Your post made me think of how well my K5 and new, old stock Ricoh GR ll function as fine photographic instruments.

Anything new ?

One thing, I've heard that Fuji is doomed. :)

I almost bought a Fuji myself in March/19.

Compared it to a Ricoh GR ll and chose the GR, but the little Fuji is a nice camera.
