Not much shooting this week, and what I did take was not worth processing or uploading. I think I need to re-evaluate my technique. Slow down, think about what I'm doing, be patient, try different settings, and really stop being lazy.
This time next week I'll be aloft and winging my way to Boston and Cape Cod, , I need to prep the "to-go" kit, and clean my lenses. I intend to make the most of my time there, I have some ambitious ideas to stage, and some places I really want to capture requiring rising early in the AM.
Fortunately my friends understand that I'll be chasing the light most of the day, so they give me a house key, and tell me what time they are having dinner, so a day's hiking and shooting end up with good meals, a few drinks and a lot of laughter. I can't wait!

I will comment on the great shots you all have posted, but I'm probably done for the month after Monday morning.

Lenses - how do you store yours ?

In a drawer, inside LowePro padded lens cases. Inside each lens case there is a silica desiccant pack. The cases have a colored tag with the lens type written on them. This allows me to grab lenses I plan on using, throw them in a bag, the car trunk, luggage, or clip them to my camera holster, and go. As I de-clutter and re-spark joy in my study, I will move them from the drawer and into a cabinet.

Is DPReview just Hopelessly Anti-Pentax?

Years ago, before I purchased my K-5, I read DP Review. Once I got my hands on a K-5 and a K-30 to try out, I purchased a K-5 for myself, and a K30 for my daughter. I stopped reading DPReview shortly thereafter.

More properly, PF needs a thread titled "Is time spent whinging about DPReview's opinion of Pentax better spent doing anything else?" The only comments following would be "Yes", or something similar.

In the northern hemisphere, it is almost autumn, the sunlight comes in at more of an angle now, making everything glow a bit more.

I hope everyone weathers the storm well if they are at risk

I am excited, I booked my flight for Boston this evening. Really, I am only arriving and departing from Boston, I'm actually visiting friends on Cape Cod, though I did leave some room in the schedule for a day in the city, maybe even a night game at Fenway before I depart. I love Boston and the Cape, I called it home for 5 years, but now 7 years have passed since I last visited. I expect to take a lot of pictures while I am there, so much to see, and that Cape Light makes everything look a little more magical.

I does seem that SIC helps gain Explores, but I'll leave it to a more analytically minded Pentaxian to prove it.

Too bad the reality of the expense of living there dampens my reverie and makes me appreciate where I now call home all the more. Still I am thankful I can travel.

I'm no pro, nor am I a lawyer, but that is something you might want to put in as a clause in your contract, to discuss with the couple before they hire you, and you could review some specific shots you'd like to use after the event. That should gain you a lot of goodwill and save you time as well.

If her last camera was a K-r, then a K-3, KP, or K-1 will be amazing for her. Since she is doing second camera work for a pro, I am sure she wants high quality, especially in lower light, and any of the three above would deliver that.
Surely you know how elicit info from her. Ask here if she is still interested in K-1's and about the weight of a camera versus functionality, etc. If she's looking at a K-1, she probably know whether her lenses are compatible.
If you meant 28-135mm lens, it is a great, but heavy lens, if she can tote that around without complaint, A k-1 wouldn't be a burden.

Back home for a few days. The work week did not allow for much shooting, more like scouting out a few locations, just missed the blue hour in one of my favorite spots, too.
Today allows me an opportunity to capture rocketry in a very scenic spot, so I'm hoping to have some images worth posting when I return tonight.

One of my favorite themes is light and glassware
Red Dragon
Yay for craft shops for unique and compact lighting,
white Bottle DI 03
as well as decorative glassware
Crystalline Light
hardware stores have some great LED shop lights that can add to the options
Double Red
Spiral and you are only limited by imagination making even the mundane Glass blast Off
a bit otherworldly
Burning Glass
but they way we use glass varies from creative
Singing Hands Black and White

to the practical Repeal Appeal

Many of my shots go on Flickr for Single In, Daily In and other posting to PF About once a quarter, I cull the shots that were low performing in terms of comments, or those that are part of a repetitive theme. For example, I live near the mountains, and though they provide something new to view on a daily basis for Single In, etc. I don't want my Flickr page to be 30 shots of mountains.
I keep the Explores, and usually view the pages of the most recent faves or comments. I've seen some great photography and interesting subjects by doing so.
I'm always pleasantly surprised to see what hits Explore. I don't question how, or try to improve my odds, I just try to put up good shots.
This morning A recent image hit Explore, nice surprise to begin the day.Crown Jewel

Not paying attention to the calendar, I started using the SMC-A 28-135mm today. Great lens, but the MFD is at least ~36"1 meter when not in Macro. Missed a few good shots figuring that out. Still, I am looking forward to using this lens in September,
The lens is sharp, almost too sharp at f11 the woman behind my subjects is a distraction, IMO. School of Hard Nocks

The lack of autofocus encourage me to get my manual focusing skills back to a high level. I think it will be good for my photography to be forced to slow down and focus. That usually assist my composition as well. Knowing I'll have to be ready at the right moment in some situatiosn, it also forces me to pay more attention to opportunities, and "pre-compose" the shot.
It's a great, heavy lens, with a 77mm front lens, so I need to get a wider CPL. Fortunately, the new CaseLogic Holster bag easily contains this lens on my K-1.
