normhead said: "My only complaint with this lens is the 6.3 at 300mm means the fastest aperture possible with the 1.4 TC is 9, well beyond the APS-c diffraction limit. But with no TC, there's nothing to complain about..."

I don't know about your own experience and your particular 55-300 PLM & 1.4 TC copies, but I have tested closely on such things as the small writing on oil tanks a mile+ away from a tripod and I simply cannot see any additional detail through that lens+TC over simply cropping the lens-only output.

Nice pic.

I haven't yet tried the focus stacking mode as I need to do some setup first or else spring needs to arrive. VERY interested in checking out that option

K-70 user in my case. I have a 2-ish year old homebrew desktop (12-core Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3500Mz) and a 4 year old top-of-the-line Asus ROG (semi-)portable running Windows on an 8 core i-7 @2600Mz. Well top-of-the-line 4 years ago, anyway. Just checked by taking 3 shots out my front window at cars going by handheld. Alignment on. I'm completing the entire composites (strobe/moving object removal) in under 20 secs. Works fine for me so far. Hugin may align handhelds a bit better though I haven't had a chance to really learn the new Silkypix options yet. But processing speed is not a problem in my own case.

I'll certainly keep experimenting.

SilkyPix 10 Developer Pro has introduced a number of compositing modes. Did some experimentation for the first time today.

First set of pictures is a set of 5 taken from a tripod. The little objects in the back are fixed, the owl moves in each frame.

Stroboscopic compositing:

Object removal compositing:

Night compositing. Set of 5 pics of a dark corner bookcase @6400 ISO, camera on tripod, all crops 100%

1 of the 5 original pics:

Night composited (emphasis on NR, etc.)

Night Compositing. Black level correction weak. Set of 5 pics of dark corner bookcase @ISO12800, camera on tripod. all crops 100%.

1 of 5 original pics:

Night composited, black level correction medium:

1 of 5 originals @ISO32000

How many lenses do you take when out photographing?

K-70 APSC user here. Typically take 16-85 and 55-300 PLM. If out at golden hour will throw the 40 Ltd in my pocket as well as it renders those colours beautifully and adds no real weight. If it's an out and back hike, I often mount 55-300 going out and switch to the 16-85 on the way back to pick up details spotted on the way out.

Have a number of other lenses I often use including the Sigma 10-20 (slow version) and 100mm Pentax macro but don't typically hike with them.

I bought a Leica yesterday--actually three of them--all in my Huawei Note Pro 20!

While I bought it for the oversize battery, I must say the cameras are pretty darned good! (though not Pentax DSLR good, of course)

Agreed. In particular, the silver greys and blue greys of the color version.add much to the sky's drama IMO. Quick fiddling in GIMP only desaturating the land and leaving sky largely alone may be the best of both worlds. Or possibly slightly saturating the sky some in the BW version.

Re. 43C...I've taken pics at 40C+ with my Pentax systems just fine in TX. Away from coast so not really high humidity. Didn't notice anything. Never really high humidity though. No idea how much humidity exists in Melbourne but that might would worry me if it were New Orleans-ish high along with such high temps.

My worry where I normally live/shoot is that in Newfoundland is it is VERY humid and can get cold. I have found conditions where both my Sigma AF lenses--17-50mm f2.8 and the slow 10-20mm--fail. Both fail at around -5 to -10C in high humidity*.

The camera itself--k-70--and the Pentax lenses I use--primarily my 16-85mm, 55-300mm PLM, 100mm macro, and 40mm Ltd.--have never failed in weather I've been out in though it never does not get all that far below -15C out here on the Avalon and the very coldest days are usually low humidity in any case.

-------
*They wake up later when warm so something must be binding or needing more power or something. Never have worked to diagnose exactly.

NO idea what camera was used but this shot will terrify anyone who has ever been to St. John's, Newfoundland. My daughter noticed it on the Twitplace. I have NEVER seen or heard of a time when it was suicidal to enter St. John's harbor. But the recent gigantic winter hurricane-ish-like storm with winds up to 170kph raised some rather incredible seas. As an amateur sailor I certainly find this pic-even with its technical flaws--to be absolutely personally terrifying.

For reference, the old barracks at the top of the hill to the left is at about 100m above sea level.

If you want really good low light, go with the K70/KP/K1. The nice thing is it saves on having to buy superexpensive, superheavy, low f-stop glass for many applications. (Hint: The 55-300mm PLM requires good high ISO performance in darker environments like where I live, but the K-70 delivers it.)

Re. K-3 vs. K-70 that is more of a choice between feature set and construction levels vs. low light performance.
