Love the foreground colors (which at first I didn't see because I only had the top 2/3 of the image in view, so they came as quite the pleasant surprise).

And I'd be curious to see what it looks like if you lowered the camera as much as you could.

Thank you for commenting on this very old thread. I hadn't realized how long ago I posted this shot. I still need to work on the PP and make a larger print for hanging, and this might have just been the motivation I needed.

Very well composed Tony, and the title had me guessing as to what you were going to show in the image.

Individually I'm not sure any of them is a standout image (especially compared to others you've posted), but as a collection of 4 they would make for a good montage or 4 panel framed picture.

I'd be thrilled with this shot. And of all the settings not to change, this is a very minor blip. Try shooting outdoors JPG after leaving the camera on fluorescent lighting...

ps. Your link to the other image needs fixing.

We have that too, but there can be return points scattered within the parking lot. And then the carts never get returned to the main store pick up point...

The sort of place to avoid before a long weekend! Better than some stores where all the carts are stuck in the parking lot waiting to be dragged by to the store for the next set of customers.

The texture of the ripples is a lot more interesting than the uniformity in the top of the sky. So I would leave them in, but you could play with the cropping until the overall balance between colors and textures seems right.

Helios 44M 58mm f/2 and Pentax Super Multi Coated Takumar 55mm f/1.8 images

The Tak image looks a litter brighter (or perhaps warmer). But the real question for me is whether there are differences in the histograms. In theory with some simple tweaks to the brightness and contrast, could you make the first image look like the second? If yes, then it is more a matter of whether the camera is reading the exposure right through these lenses. But if there are more significant differences in the histograms, then you would have a sense of which colors are picked up better by each of the lenses. The main appeal of the Helios come from the bokeh it can generate. If my primary concern was sharpness, I'd pick the Tak every time.

#12 did not get my vote, but I think it is a truly brilliant photo (I just put my emphasis on the "Candid" part and thought another image hit that note better). But I'm truly impressed by the angle and timing of that image.

I really like it, but I might crop a bit tighter to get rid of the very bright top right corner which I find distracting.

I don't think the GTA is Canada even if it is the centre of the Universe ;)

For me, these days, it is more about logistics than anything else because there are too many competing interests and logistical challenges within the family. I still can't see us getting to Algonquin, but if we can manage an overnight trip this summer, I'm all for exploring small town Ontario. One thing we have done a lot over the years, both in Ontario and Maryland is fruit and vegetable picking. I know of a lot of people who would benefit from "learning" that food actually grows somewhere and doesn't just magically appear in a supermarket (or grow inside of tins for that matter).

I understand your comment about the Rockies. And there are a lot of cultural / historical references that make a lot more sense once you've actually explored the terrain yourself.
