Sorry to hear about your KS-2 experience, I felt it was definitely a good turn around in design and overall camera when the camera was announced. I just had my Mz-5n gear/motor fail on me the other day. While not as financially painful, it's annoying to see cameras still plagued by the same sorts of issues. :hmm:

Pentax 50mm f/1.4 with plastic name ring? And some questions...

I recently picked up a super tak 50 that had the same dent maybe less severe but also resulting in holes having to be drilled to allow the use of a spanner. The focus ring had been dinged too and had to be 'pounded' round again.

Back on topic I did notice my M50/1.4 has a plastic name ring, the text engraving was obviously less precise than an engraved metal name ring. I spotted an M50/1.4 in the marketplace with what appears to sport a metal name ring. (The text inscriptions were much finer and the texture was more akin to the anodized alu that was around it.)

So while I don't have an M50/1.4 with a metal name ring, I highly suspect you are right that there was a transition period and the generation of M lenses was were it happened.

I suspect a spring that clips onto the lever arm (that sticks out the back) has slipped off. If you are brave, you can take the screws off the mount, take the mount off and see if the aperture lever arm is actuating the aperture properly via that spring.

My guess.

Wow so the F28 has the same optical formula as the A28/MII28?

I'm also surprised by the M28/2's numbers!

Something wrong with shutter curtains?

I have this problem with a Spotmatic, at 1/1000th of a sec, it was about 50/50, the frame would lose about a third. I learnt this the hard way too as I had reskinned the leather when it came in from the mail, the CLA was going to be more than the camera so I'm trying my luck with another Spotmatic, I've yet to finish the first roll so my luck remains to be determined.

I just picked up a Pentax S1a the other day and wow, you can see looking through the camera at a light from the back with the film door open. You should be able to see an entire frame regardless of speed if the timing is unaffected. On that S1a, shutter speeds At the unmarked 1/1000th speed, 3 of 4 frames were totally dark, the remainder showed barely a sliver. At 1/500th, most of the test shots were half frames with the occassional 2/3rds of a frame showing through. Even the 1/250th speed had the occasional partial blockage.

I'm wondering if this is a horizontal shutter issue more so than a vertical one. :/

(guess I got some fancy book ends now)

Relube - K50/1.4

Thanks a bunch for the replies!

Seems like SuperLube looks like a popular choice. I'll keep my eyes out for it! Most of the stuff I find at the local hardware chains have a really strong petroleum smell to it, i don't feel comfortable taking a chance with on such a beautiful lens.

Relube - K50/1.4

Long story short, I was cleaning some dust/grit from the inside of a used K50/1.4 I had bought a while back and used alittle too much such that some alcohol got into the helicoid dissolving some of the grease.

I had only removed the filter and focus ring to clean and glue the distance scale back. Now the focus ring turns tighter/uneven.

What's the closest to OEM/most preferable grease product I can get to reapply onto the threads?

(I'm not skilled enough to do a full strip disassembly. I only plan on taking off the filter and focus ring again, with the lens extended (at minimum focus distance) to reveal the affected threading and just swab on some extra grease back)

Thanks in advance and looking forward to what you guys and gals have to say!

Lens Turbo II PK-NEX First Impression

Haven't had time to really shoot with mine since I've got it but I have the EF-Nex LT II and so far the 8-Element Tak 50/1.4 (w/ M42-EF) hits the lens turbo element at about 1-2m. Blue spot seems to be mostly gone from the LT gen 1

Problem with the EF-Nex is that my PK-EF and M42-EF adapters fit rather loosely on my EF-Nex Turbo II. I'm thinking I shoulda just ordered a native PK Lens Turbo II instead. :(

have you tried the Pentax 25mm f1.4 C-Mount for 1-inch sensors? Its like 89.99 at BH but right now they are out of stock. It gets alot of rave reviews from m4/3rds from pana/oly alike.

As of other 24s, I have experience with Vivitar/kiron 24/2 and the tammy 24/2.5. Both are really good. The tammy is a little slower but can focus to like 24cm or something like that which can give you a little more oomph in your perspectives if going for a close up.

(oh wait you are on 2x crop that case yea the kiron stops at 0.3cm and the tammy goes down to like 24cm. something to think about.)

Bollocks, i thought you were asking for our opinion on which age group uses MF. I'm in my early 20s and I'm 99%-100% manual focus. Its a more like in-the-zone method of shooting i find.

I had it briefly before switching (back in time) to the push pull Tammy 80-200/2.8 (I like to manual focus). I was honestly pleasantly surprised at how well the SP70-200 handles aberrations. Its an improvement on the already good 80-200.

Another bonus on the SP70-200 is the 0.95 minimum focusing distance, you get some good flexibility even in tight spaces. Happy Shooting!

I don't think this is a model issue but a unit specific or one as pertains to the electronics. My K200D did that a long time ago. I had multiple sets of Eneloops and Sony CycleEnergy AA NiMH's but couldn't really pinpoint the issue but it would show similar symptoms sporadically. It would flop on the shutter half press sometimes one, sometimes, multiple times. It was fixed under warranty but there was no mention what part but that was the end of that.
