The service manual indicates using a 6.5V 3A setting to test the viewfinder functions and a 5.68V 3A to test battery full indicator. 4.66V 3A for battery exhausted test. DC of course. I would wager that if you batteries are within these parameters it should function.

Here's a link to the old Maha/PowerEx FAQ on archive.org:
FAQ MH-C9000 - Maha Energy

Note that Maha recommends 0.5C for charging. The eneloop101.com site claims an Eneloop technician recommends 0.5C also.

Chapter 11 doesn't automatically mean death. Apple, Macy's, Best Buy, Starbucks, Chrysler, GM and Marvel all filed for Chapter 11 at some point. Mostly it's getting the right people at the helm.

Sears sold Craftsman to Stanley Black & Decker last year.

More K-x problems.

Since the problem seems to manifest itself only on the first few shots after power on I doubt auto-bracketing is enabled.

Are the batteries fresh or fully charged?

Do you have another lens you try to replicate the problem?

Sounds almost like the classic Dark Frame Syndrome commonly called aperture control block failure. As far as I know the K-x uses a similar control block as used since the *stD series through the K-S2

The old FAQ on the Maha site used to recommend a 0.5C. C being the capacity of the battery. So if the battery is rated for 2000mAh 1.0C = 2000mAh and 0.5C = 1000mAh. Going above 1.0C or below 0.33C is not recommended. Too gives excessive heat, too low and the charger may not detect the voltage spike that signals the cell is fully charged. Round the settings up to the nearest 100.

There are several schools of thoughts on whether a slow charge is better for the life of the battery or not. Some say the ideal is 0.33C. Some say it doesn't really matter. Maha assumes you'll be using 2000mAh cells and defaults to a compromise of 1000mAh. Use 1.0C for quick charge.

And out of every 4 batteries you buy only 1 is useable?

So you spent ~$24 to find one set of batteries that works. What about next year, suppose you don't find a set that works after buying four or more sets? Batteries differ from batch to batch as well as by brand.

You could buy a *istDS from KEH for $29 with a six month warranty.

With all the money you spend on batteries you could probably just buy a used camera in good working order.

Costco never had them in the warehouses though, perhaps Hoya/Ricoh couldn't or wouldn't give them the number of units in order to do this.

Turning back screwdrive converted lens

I suggest looking through the various threads on the SDM conversion and firmware hacking (with a little help from the search function).:

How To: Convert SDM to ScrewDrive + Video - PentaxForums.com
Convert SDM to screwdrive - PentaxForums.com
DA* 16-50 screw drive conversion - PentaxForums.com
How to deactivate SDM and allow for screw drive autofocus with DA* 16-50mm f/2.8 - PentaxForums.com
SDM to Screwdrive Conversions - PentaxForums.com
Resurrecting Pentax firmware hacking - PentaxForums.com

As I recall there yet be a method discovered to enable debug mode on newer bodies either with PKTether or placing the text file on the SD card. You'll need a body older than the K-3.

Many of the Pentax DSLRs use a Seiko "accumlator" (fancy name for rechargeable battery). The accumulator is soldered to the main board and is considered "not user servicable"

MS414GE | Seiko Instruments Inc. Micro Energy Division

If you do some searching on PentaxForums there were some photos posted showing the location of the battery on main board.

Replacement isn't simple due to the amount of disassembly (including un-soldering) one needs to do in order to get to the battery.

Any reason *not* to use Winder on my ME Super?

Whatever. My friend (who worked in their shop) said the surest way to kill a camera is to put a power winder/drive on it. Their conclusion was that the consumer level cameras weren't built to stand the stress from winders/drives. You think a drive that' capable of 3-4 frames per second isn't going to add more stress to the mechanics then maybe the 1 frame per second (wild guess) you could achieve by manually winding it?

It doesn't mean they have to be new FF cameras. Just different anniversary editions of the K-1 mk ii, say gold or platinum.

What's the rush? The latest Canon crop DSLR was the EOS 7D mk II announced in 2014 and Nikon's flagship DX500 was announced at the beginning of 2016.

Are Canon and Nikon users champing at the bit for a new crop flagship?

According to some, Ricoh/Pentax cannot possibly survive unless they copy everything Nikon and Canon does. Isn't taking their time with a new crop flagship doing that?

Try USCamera.com. They don't have the part listed but they do have some lens parts. They take requests and can probably get the part for you.

My friend's parents used to own a camera repair shop up through the early 90s. They called the power winders camera killers because of all the repairs they did on units with winders vs units without winders.

BTW: The Summit Solenoid site says this:

"Add your name to our growing list of satisfied customers including Harley Davidson, Numatics, Zum, Americor, NSF controls, Matsushita, Toray Medical, Asus and Quanta."

So for all we know Summit Solenoid (Summit Elec-Tech) has been the supplier of the solenoid to Matsushita since 1999.
