X90 - come close to using my slr

I have about 3 p&s in total. I was after a DSLR, but the price of just the body was out of my range. Then I discovered x90. I was thrilled. I'll never own a DSLR at this rate, but damn good shots on this.... damn good shots. I now do not want a DSLR, cause if I break it or whatever...I can't afford a new one. This one is better than the DSLRs I was trying out, P&S my ass.....this is so much more than that.

Yes true, but how many typical point & shoots can actually have filters on there (regardless of the price) at all? Like I said....hubby has a SLR. I find it harder to use than my X90. I would rather buy some expensive or not so expensive filters to fit mine than to buy a whole new lens to fit a DSLR.

I agree, I call mine a DSLR, it's basically that without the need to buy an expensive lens, you can in fact attach filters to it via a lens adapter that costs next to nothing & filters are a dine a dozen. It in fact makes it so much more like DLSR than a point & shoot.

I have a Kodak something digital...THAT is a point & shoot.... my Pentax X90...is NOT just a point & shoot. I can't set a point & shoot in so many ways as I can this. My husband got a SLR, it's nowhere near as good as this one.

Filteradapter 72mm für Pentax X90 (eBay item 250715884390 end time 21-Feb-11 05:48:23 AEDST) : Foto Camcorder

This one is in german because for some reason I can no longer find the seller I got it from in english. It actually sort of snaps over the entire lens part and you screw the filters into that. There are 2 sections in it, one for zoom & if you are not using zoom or using macro, then the filters can be closer. It will take 72mm filters & I have so many now that I actually had to buy a bigger bag.

26x I manage ok without a tripod, I can take a decent shot of the cars parked up the end of the street & have managed a brilliant shot that was actually 4kms away

I made sure I had a UV, polarizer, and a ND one. Everything else was just extras.

It sure does mean that. Any 72mm filter will fit the adapter. But if you want to take a photo with flash then you have to have something to bounce the flash because it does leave a small darker area on the bottom of the photo. Other than that it's a brilliant adapter to have. I have about 40 filters for it now & I love it.

The fisheye lens however will NOT be able to be used on it as it is a lens & not just a filter. Also that lens is 58mm & not 72mm

I hope so :( I ended up having to take the adapter off till a solution is found cause of the dark shadow it causes on the bottom of the photo :(

Wow not really a big difference :( damn. I wonder if a bit of white paper stuck on the inside may do it better? I have a strange one on at the moment & because it is slightly transparent it does not do the job at all

Oh let me know how the velcro thing works out, that may be the solution after all. The diffuser does not look that heavy so it may just stay put very well & if you have the velcro then you can take it on & off as needed. Great idea

Got this reply back

Thank you for the email. I do not doubt that there may be enough energy to bounce the light for your particular camera, however the mounting of the Lightscoop still requires a flash shoe in conjunction with a popup built-in flash in order to work, so for the present, I'm afraid that we're not the proper solution for your unit...

Looks like the hotshoe part stuck onto my x90 would work, cause it already has the popup built in flash ...... so I'll take it that the person did not even look at a photo of the camera at all & I will try the hotshoe option when I can justify they price.....

I found a site

light scoop digital photography pop-up flash Olympus Nikon Fuji Canon Pentax

I emailed them asking if there was one for the X90 that could be made, their response was

Unfortunately, the lightscoop will NOT work with your type of camera. A hot shoe is a must, and the amount of power available in point and shoot is not enough. I'm sorry for the bad news...

I told them they underestimated the power of the X90.

Yeah the X90 is a brilliant little thing. Not bad for a point & shoot. It's all I need

The link for the adapter is
KIWIFOTOS 72mm Lens adapter converter for Pentax X90 (eBay item 360327465910 end time 10-Jan-11 14:27:06 AEDST) : Cameras

I love it. I have about 30 filters now that I can put on my X90. It's great. But that is why I need the diffuser, cause the end of the adapter casts a bit of a dark spot when I use the flash :(

Damn that's what I thought :( I think I may have to become creative & try to make one... or at lease adapt one.

I got a soft one that kinda folds over it, but because it is so big & also requires a hotshoe to attach to it becomes rather useless.

I will get creative & try to make one.... perhaps then I can sell some if they work :)

I need one, but all I can find are ones for DSLR type cameras & flashes. I can't find anything & I am sick of having to use a card each time (it's not easy to get it right in a hurry)

Anyone know what ones I can use? I need to have one cause of my adapter on there.

I just got an adapter for it today (took 3 weeks to get here) for my X90. I can now add any 72mm filter to it. So in fact I have now turned my point & shoot into a DSLR :) I am thrilled. I also got 25 filters for it, & that makes me even happier :)

It's a brilliant camera & I am trying to be a professional photographer. It does the job & more.

It took me a while to find the right one. B&W is not something I have played with just yet... but this is what I got.
Now this one was taken in a car, on the way home. It's getting closer to the City of Melbourne & just got to me.. power lines. Big ones, lots of them. For miles.

So this is the best of the lot. Hope you like it. It's simply called "Power"
