Antique Mall LBA!!! (more avail in WI)

This is the third time I've gotten some much needed glass for a low price at a Thrift Store, so I figured I'd share. :D

There was a guy with a thick Russian accent at the Benson Corners Antique Mall in Bristol, WI (where 45 and 50 intersect), who had quite a few lenses for sale at his booth. Most was C*nnon and N*kon, but I did walk away with these 3 pieces for $80. He also had a few super Taks and some other assorted Sears/JC Penny glass for under $30, if anyone's interested. The 2X converter I especially needed; it will make a nice combo with the Viv 205 for outdoors wildlife stuff, and possibly keep me from pulling the Bigma trigger for a while longer.

Vivitar 75-205 f/3.5 macro zoom is first, followed by the Asahi 50 f/2 and Soligor 2X converter.

Thanks for the replies guys!

I decided to just let my brother use my gear, and ended up with some very respectable shots! He's not a camera guy, so I just put the big flash on it, put it in Program mode, showed him how to use autobracket and went to town. There were many others taking pictures, so I'm sure there are still some great shots I have yet to see.

Here's a few from the POV on my K200d and FA50.

mtroute: I wish I had any money left, but the reality is we have people coming from all over to see us get married. Priority #1 was we had to make sure we had a place for us all to meet and socialize, and we also had to make sure people were fed. Everything else besides that (including the honeymoon) was done on a budget, the pictures are the only thing I have not been able to find a deal on, it's frustrating.

The thing that's killing me is most of these people want 1000's of dollars only to have me end up with a few good photos? I can't rationalize that, especially when we're both already broke, and the economy isn't going to recover tomorrow. Sorry, but it's not. I wasn't able to find a local photography school with a student to bribe, so that's out. I starting to think my only option is to give a family member my bag, and tell them to go nuts with it.

Adrian,
If I had that much cash, I'd have gone back to Bris myself! Nutter! :)

I like that idea, I'll see what's in the area.

Gary: This IS my camera club!
I was hoping someone in the area would speak up, but I'll look into the photography school thing as an option.

I understand about getting what you pay for, believe me. It's just that the Facebook thing is definitely not an option, and we don't have the cash for a pro. What I'm looking for is someone with a little experience, who can take the portraits of us during and after the ceremony. I'm not after anything super nice, just a few good looking shots. Mainly the big one that hangs on the wall, where we stand next to a tree or whatever. I'm only looking to spend a couple hundered here, so an ametuer or student may just be what I'm after.

Hey guys, I'm getting married in Feb! Problem is, I don't have the money to hire these outlandishly expensive pros. I'd do it myself like I do with most anything, but I kinda have to be in the shot this time.

So who's got a cost effective way to get quality wedding pics? I've read about maybe getting photography students to do it, but Jamie wants a sure thing. Would anyone here be interested in doing it for a few duckets? I'm in N Chicago, let me know!

EDIT: I'd let you use my equipment too, so if it helps your LBA to mess with my lenses.... Be my guest.

Not sure if this is the right place to put this, just let me know and I'll have it moved.

I went to an estate sale the other day, and some Can*n stuff followed me home:

FTb 35mm body with new battery (needs new foam seals)
Vivitar 272 auto thyristor flash
Vivitar 2x teleconverter
Tokina EL 28mm f/2.8 prime
Can*n 50mm f/1.4 SSC prime
Vivitar (Series 1) 70-210mm f/3.8 Macro
Vivitar brand UV/polarizing filters for the lenses. Also, 2 of the lenses (the 50 and the zoom) have rubber hoods like this one:

Heliopan | 58mm Rubber Lens Hood | 701058 | B&H Photo Video

There was also a Celestron T-adaptor-C90, for tele/spotting scopes.

93635A Celestron T-adapter for NexStar 4 and for all C90 Spotting Scopes.

Everything's in good shape, so how much can I get out of this stuff to help finance that Bigma I've been pining for?

Sears 135mm: Av stop-down does not match aperture ring

When I got my 135, the aperture was kinda iffy. It would sometimes stick wide open, and other times the mechanical linkage in the back of the lens jammed up completely. Turns out there was a bent arm inside, I only had to take out the 4 small screws to fix it. Now it works like a champ! They are very simple lenses, but then again mine's an old PK mount manual lens so it's probably different than yours.

Haven't been on here in a while, so many 'clubs' have popped up!
I get to join this one, since I have an XR Di 28-200 3.8/5.6 lens.
You don't have to be a pro to get great results, for example:

I have used my Sigma 14 on an old Sears 35mm body without any vignetting, but it has an aperture ring. Can't tell you if the focus or aperture will work, sorry.

What to bring to a stadium concert?

Maybe he was drunk at the time (or something else), but I saw BD like 8 years ago and the concert sucked. Couldn't understand a thing he said, and the pot cloud was so thick, I could barely see the stage.

Anyway, I can't imagine it being any better today. Sorry to bust your bubble.

Sometimes it's a bit long for the shots I usually take, but it redeems itself by being so sharp.

I'm quite partial to the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 Macro I bought after binning my kit lens, although in retrospect it's aparent I got a bad copy of the kit. The 18-55 MKII is much better, but I still wouldn't trade it for the Sigma by a long shot. My Tammy 28-200 ain't half bad either.

You need an ultrawide! :D

I never felt like I was getting the most out of my setup till I bought the Sigma 14 f/2.8. 14 is way wider than the 18 you get with the kit lens, which I proptly threw in the trash. Maybe even consider a fisheye? I think that'll be my next LBA.

Not sure if it was an old episode or new, but I was watching it today and thought one of the rides in particular was pretty interesting. Ben gave some folks a ride to B&H Photo! Can you imagine? There you are on the way to buy, oh I don't know, an SD card or something, get a ride from the CC and end up leaving B&H with a Bigma?!? It would be a dream come true.
Thought I'd share.
