Pentax LX & M40/2.8 & Provia 100F:

What a coincidence and great shot! I was in Kruger a couple years ago and also was the only one shooting film, also with the A70-210/4. However I used Fuji Provia 400X & my K2DMD for the wildlife.

What's the best Pentax prime?

The K24/2.8 was released during the M Series run and if not for the 52mm filter thread, it most likely would have been labelled as a M24/2.8. I also have the K24/3.5, it's a totally different lens and I prefer it over all. I also have the FA24/2, it's excellent and slightly sharper in the corners, but I still really like using the way older K24/3.5. (I only shoot these on Pentax film cameras, so on a K-1 results may vary.)

Manual focus lenses with infinity focus issues - anyone else encountering them?

Do you have an old Pentax K-mount film body to test the K Series lenses on? That will eliminate the lenses for sure. I've been using my K28/3.5 for over 40 years with zero issues, so my guess it's the K-1's K-mount.

Pentax MX - Exposure measurement issue ... and a question.

Yes if I remember correctly your MX meter will not give a reading if it's out of the meters range. On other Pentax cameras the meter needle will just not move.
If using in low light it's usually a good idea to put the lens aperture in f/4 or faster and the shutter speed around 1/8 of a second when you turn on your meter, so you usually will get some sort of reading.

Your camera is working fine!

Yep the A70-210/4 is my favourite zoom in this focal range. Well worth the money and not too big in size.

Oh my this is not good!

You might have to setup a postal box in a bordering town and have your "packages" delivered there. Pick them up then the coast is clear! ;)

Wim Wenders polaroids, and "why [he thinks] photography is now over"

My wife and I went to the International Center of Photography last May while in NYC. After looking around for a few minutes you quickly realize "still" photography is in the minority, various sized screens line the walls showing video clips ranging in duration from seconds to hours. Printed photos on some form of paper seem to be a thing of the past and this remember is a Center of Photography.

The place was full of high school students on field trips while we were there. The few colour/b&w photos that were on display were quickly passed over by the students and they just stared at the screens watching the numerous video clips.

Photography has changed and will change even more in the next decade. Wim is not an old fart who is living in the past and has no clue what's going on. Just remember there are lots of younger folks today who think we who use dedicated cameras and take still pictures, are a bunch of old dinosaurs stuck in the past!

Generally you will not find a K1000 bundled with a K50/1.2, maybe a K2DMD or LX, but not a K1000. ;)

I've though of buying one as well, but never pressed the "Buy it now" button. It's always fun to tryout a new film body that you have never used before, I'm also eyeing a ME F as my next purchase.

Have fun with your new SFX.

Nice, I used to have a '64 T-bird convertible. Your shot looks like one from the late '50s?

No it's not how to set up a shot, it's the time taken to setup a shot that has changed. When you only have a limited supply of film you tend to spend more time thinking before you shoot, as you may have only one shot to take.

Yes it's different now in the digital world, I see it every time I travel and observe other people shooting.

The K30/2.8 and FA31/1.8 get mentioned a lot, however I prefer the slightly wider K28/2 of the three. The Pentax/Zeiss collaboration K28/2 is a classic and would be considered one of Pentax's best.

I think what Wim is getting at is now people just snap away and don't really "compose" a single shot like you used to when shooting film. Now people tend to take dozens of pictures of the same thing, as you never have to think about how many shots you have left in your roll of film.

The uniqueness of the "one shot" is now gone in the digital world, now it's just hundreds of random shots to sort through.

I actually agree with him.......

This is also going to depend on the camera you are using. A specific Pentax prime lens is going to have slightly different results if it's used on a film, APC-S, FF or third party body.

Yep a lot of German designs/inventions have been perfected by Japanese companies over the years. Germans tend to over complicate things sometimes, my wife & I have German heritage and laugh about this all the time.

On a trip to Hawaii, French Polynesia & Rapa Nui (Easter island) last month, I saw about 5 or 6 Pentax shooters. All APSC DSLR bodies, with a couple white ones that stick out like sore thumbs.
