Nature Pet Quaker Parakeet

Raised this Quaker from a fledgling. Kept his flight feathers clipped until age two. Decided that wasn't humane. Let feathers grow and accepted that if he flew away, he'd be happier.

For the next four years he flew freely whenever we took him outdoors. He never once left our yard and would always return and land on my shoulder.

We lost him one weekend while wife & I were on a trip. He chewed a hole in a fiberglass screen and escaped. Since he never returned we figured a neighbor got him. I hope they treated him fairly.

Photo #1: The day we got him in '98 and then a shot taken in 2003 when he was five years old.
Photo #2: One of the family at dinner table.
Photo #3. On back deck checking out a squirrel.
Photo #4: On my knee eating popcorn.
Photo #5: Eating ice cream - this shot made the local paper.

Lake Texoma has what is called "Blue-Green Algae" due to low water and high lake temperatures. I first heard of this type of algae when watching a British movie, "Keeping Mum". The only remedy was to drain the pond!

Great shot of aircraft inflight. I have tried over the years to capture same but have never come up with anything of which I'd be proud.

BTW, The Tamron 70-300 has been my lens of choice ever since getting the K100D several years ago. I keep it attached to my K200D and the standard lens to my K100D.

The Nuthatch claim to fame is his way of looking for insects/bugs in and around the bark of trees. He descends down the tree truck headfirst rather than climbing up the trunk. Note his feet/toenails.

The Kite spent several days around our house and would rest in cotton wood tree in front yard. They catch their prey on the wing and it consists mostly of insects in flight. Seem to prefer dragonflies. They were here for only a couple of days and haven't seen them since.

Nature A passel of Raccoons

Yeah, have to catch'em young to make a pet of them. I captured one in a 'live' trap and thought I'd tame him - wrong!

But did raise a Quaker (Monk) Parrot from infancy. He trained so well that I would let him fly freely. He would always come back and land on my shoulder. For the six years we had him he never once flew away...he did chew through our fiberglass screen while we were away for weekend. Never saw him again. I hope he found another good home.

When the raccoons began coming into yard during daylight, figured they must be mighty hungry so we started putting out cat food for them.
Come night time we noticed a lot more coming into yard. We put up a floodlight in order to take photos through the kitchen window. We were entertained for many hours watching these critters.
This was last year. Have never seen more than two at one time this year.

I'd say the unknown bird is a "Scrub Jay". Don't have any in my area. Wish I did!
