LCD image vs actual RAW image

I know none is wrong, but it is hard when you see few of your images looks slightly overexposed on your camera (clipping highlights), turn down exposure for stop or two, then shot hundreds more and when you transfer your files to computer then realise that only those frist overexposed images were right exposed and all others are completely underexposed.

That's huge problem, but i will get used to that.

it can show all channels, but the problem is that it is completely different after saving image on computer and opening it in ACR. (Adobe camera raw)

and i am talking about exposure, it's normal for colors to be slightly different even I use sRGB on both pc and camera.

Greetings

I have one question about difference in back of the camera LCD image and actual RAW image on computer.

I'm shooting RAW only, and using both sRGB on my PC (adobe photoshop camera raw) and in my camera and I am not talking about color difference, I am ok with that

Problem is that I even see red clipping highlights on LCD image review and when I get it to my computer, there is no clipping at all. I used natural picture setting in my camera (I know it's for LCD review only) do I need to change that setting to default (bright) or something else, or is the histogram only thing that i should look while reviewing my images on LCD camera screen?

Thank you

thank you for advices.

Yes I also do it with studio strobes so light would not be problem

will try with 24-30 mm on my 18-55 closed down at f8-f11

maybe some extreme samples with 10-20 sigma at 20 just to see that's going on with that.

And series of usual full length straight shots with M50 1.7 also stopped down and in the height of camera about waist level (works good for me) sensor parallel to model body.

I do have lots of room so can take full body with 50mm

Did you checked those photos in the link?

To me it looks like they have that effect, but I will try to be as possible parallel in terms of model body/sensor.

What would you recommend?

Maybe 18-55 on 24-30 range closed down isn't that bad...

thank you for very fast reply

unfortunately my studio is no very close to me (and that's very unfortunate thing) but experimenting with fashion store dolls or coat racks would be great

I have sigma 10-20 (maybe at 20mm) so it "works like 30mm" on my k-3

have 50M 1.7 and 55-300 and kit 18-55. I think sigma at 20 can work this out. Don't really want to use kit 18-55.

2-3 feet is even more then I have guessed but i think you are probably right about that one.

thanks again!

Greetings Pentax community

I have one question regarding photos in this link from digitalcameraworld

If you check it: 54 Portrait Ideas: free downloadable posing guide | Digital Camera World

there is "Shoot high and low" photos, and I have some doubts about low angle shots.

I have pentax k-3 (so aps-c sensor body) and doing some fashion studio work tomorrow.

Only thing that I want to know is about those low angle shots:

1. what lens do you think is used for low angle shots

2. more important on what height was it from ground level?

3. and do you think camera (sensor) was tilted or is it straight with the body of model?

It looks like a little wider lens and about knee levels or even slightly lower, or am I wrong?

Thank you very much!

I also upgraded from k-x to k-3 and would like to know what do you mean by "better" pictures?

What is not better in your pictures and it should be? I really just want to know, my English isn't good so maybe this sounds to offensive questioning.

There are so many things you should read, practice before you take your first photos.

Disable AA filter (sharper photos), shoot RAW if you can, watch you shutter speed while hand holding (24 mpx less forgiving then 12 mpx)

To me, first thing I noticed that is much better is build quality, then features (many of them not in k-x), then autofocus (faster, more confident), then picture quality (dynamic range and color depth, noise is better but not that much, k-x has great sensor noise-wise), even battery life is better on k-3

K-x is lighter, also good ergonomics, smaller and that's it.

Hi again

I have one question regarding long exposure time lapse videos

Is it possible to do in-camera long exposure (longer then 1/30 of second) videos or I need just to shoot interval images in photo mode, then make them into a video in some computer software?

When I turn my k-3 in video mode, it doesn't allow me longer then regular video fps exposure (1/30, 1/60, 1/24), and when I shoot interval in photo mode, it doesn't stack them into a video. Is it possible to stack images into a video in photo mode or any other way in camera?

If not, what software can you recommend?

I'm still adapting to controls but they seems very logical...

this is huge jump for me, will post some image later

Hi

I have k-x for about 5 years, with kit 18-55 (dont use it too much anymore), sigma 10-20 4-5.6, pentax 55-300 and M 50 1.7

Last week I ordered my k-3 and I'm waiting for it to arrive (thursday) so I can tell you more about differences of those two models.

I downloaded it

astonishing results for iso 400, great details. :)

is it possible to upload image directly here in forum so readers can download it and see 100% ?

I would just like to put one studio portrait here that I made with my old great k-x and M 50 1.7 lens

K-x can also produce unbelievable results in good lightning (studio) conditions

Greetings everyone!

After more then 5 years using my K-x, I'm going to order K-3 tomorrow and hope it will come as soon as possible.

I have few questions regarding Liveview zooming. First of all, does K-3 have quick zoom to 100% white using liveview, not while reviewing your already taken photos? If not, how easy is to zoom to 100% while using liveview?

I need to press info button on my k-x several times (depends if it's in AF or MF mode).

Second is similar question, while reviewing your already taken photos, does it have one click 100% zoom?

The last question was about multi exposure stacking, is it possible to have all images stacked in one RAW file?

Thank you!

K-x vs K5 IIs or K3

I'm planning to buy K-3 next week, and I am proud k-x owner for more then 5 years.

I'm pretty sure if you use fully automatic setting shooting jpegs, you don't use highest potential or value of your new camera (but you paid for that).

K-x doesn't have TAv mode.

It is good little camera with solid features and great sensor but I expect to see much better pics more because I use it mainly for studio and landscape work, both with tripod and lowest iso (don't even care if quality above iso 800 is worse)

check others settings in your exif data... like aperture or shutter speed. If you k-x goes from iso 100-200 and k-5/k-3 to iso 6400 it's because you limited your iso up to 200 on your k-x, so that need to be done with new camera too.

even the best, newest full frame camera on iso 6400 with look worse if you compare it with k-x on iso 100 or 200.

just to let everyone here know, I decided to buy Manual asashi pentax 50 1.7 again :)

but I saved some money for new k-3 body, and have question about it (dont want to open new topic)

does anyone know if I can check serial key somewhere online before I buy k-3 to check if that body is the one with mirror flop issues?

Because of things like this I have opened this topic, I didn't even took that one in my mind before this topic, now I do.

It's really cheap lens, but for us in Europe not that cheap (lens in your link can't be shipped to Croatia) Cheapest new DA 50 1.8 I can find on ebay is 139 + 14 shippment, and there are also import taxes here.

I may change my mind but would like to know how that one compare to M 50 1.7 in corner and edge sharpness. (or FA)

Still do believe that full frame lens gives better corner sharpness on crop body. Always try to put my standing models from edge to edge of a frame (I shoot isolated on white background) so its crucial to me that head (on top of the frame) is sharp as central part of frame (torso). I always achieved that with M 50.

But autofocus and rounded blades are big plus for this lens.

I don't know about that, I only heard about about full frame lenses being better on APS-C, and APS-C lens being worse on FF body.

But interesting to me in those dxomark test Na Horuk posted, is that nikon 50mm 1.8 g and d are better in resolution on FF D610 then on DX D7100 even both of them have same megapixels.

DXOmark generally prefer Nikon stuff (my opinion), so being on par or even better on same sensor is great thing. All three of them are in the same price range here in Croatia.

I compared them on on k-3/d7100 also, and there is small difference in resolution, but overall DA 50 1.8 beats them all.

Now will be great to compare them all with FA 50 1.7 but I am asking too much :D

Thank you again Na Horuk, you really know how to find things.

yes, I don't need autofocus for macro, I used those rings as macro extension or even reverse macro for my M50 1.7 so even if it was autofocus lens, it would be impossible.

FA 50 1.7 and M 50 1.7 have same filter size, so I guess it will be fine.

Thanks again, my choice is FA 50 1.7

It is shame there are no MTF charts for those lenses (or I just cant find them on the internet) to see how they compare with nikon 50 1.8 D or G lenses.

I do have only pentax body and it will be like that for atleast until FF comes, but I see those 2 nikon fifties are so cheap even compared with used pentax autofocus primes on ebay.
