I think pretty much the same as you. I'd like a K mount mirrorless FF Pentax as well. The phase detect AF of my Pentax DSLRs (K20D, K-x, K-5) has always been a hit and miss experience even after trying to calibrate the body for each lens. Yes, please bring me a FF Pentax with accurate contrast detect AF to use all my K mount lenses with.

Is there a significant difference between Pentax camera bodies for Takumar (manual M42) lens use or are they basically all the same? I mean function-wise, not IQ. I know I should know this already, but all this manual lens green button thing has been a bit of a mystery to me and I have not used my manual lenses that much. Now that I am considering finally getting the K-1, I wonder if I should dedicate one of my older camera bodies (K-x, K20D, K-5) for M42 (I think I have at least the 50/4 preset Macro-Takumar, the 28/3.5 Takumar and the 50/1.4 Takumar).

AFAIK, asahi man works at a big camera shop in Berlin. So he most likely has more information of coming products and releases than us customers, but no real inside information. That could explain why sometimes his posts contain actual new information, while at other times the information turns out not quite accurate.

a Full-Frame System MILC to boost Pentax market share...

I am too in the camp wishing for a Pentax FF MILC, but with K mount. I have quite a few K mount lenses and have or have had multiple Pentax DSLRs (in chronological order K20D, K100D, K-x, K-5) and I haven't been really happy with the AF of any mentioned model. Even after careful calibration the AF has been hit and miss at best. While I realize that most members here don't share my view and that using K mount would make the camera bigger than with a new mount with a shorter registration length, that's what I'd wish for. A full frame mirrorless with accurate contrast detect AF. So far I have not wanted to spend money on another phase detect AF Pentax (K-1 that is).

EDIT: AF accuracy (in addition to weight and size of course) is one of the reasons my Pentax gear have been gathering dust last years while I have been using my m43 gear.

That doesn't look very small to me. Comparing to a K-5 picture it looks about the same size.

Sigma announcement about K-1 lens issue

If I had a K-1 (which I currently don't), I wouldn't worry much about leaving a tiny mark on the camera body. However, I'd worry a bit about what that slight torque or tension does to the mount of the camera and the lens and also whether it affects the electric contact between the camera and the lens. But perhaps this is not a major issue, or is it?

I did. I searched the K-3 subforum with "issue" and "problem" and nothing obvious came up. But nothing wrong with a little moral superiority, I guess.

Don't shoot the messenger (asahiman). I believe he gave us accurate information, but the company just changed their plans for one reason or another. And hey, kenspo confirmed the date too!

Probably much ado about nothing. But one thing that might change the way photographers work is to provide a 3G/4G data connection on the camera to store all the pictures in the cloud and not be dependent on a memory card or a local wifi connection.

Going fullframe - considerations

Funnily, now that the FF Pentax might finally really, really be coming, I'm starting seriously to consider buying a FF camera of another brand! The thing is that it's looking that when Pentax finally releases the camera (by the end of the year?), they'll position it in the market way above what I'm willing to spend. They seem to be going to compete the D810 and the 5D Mk III and the camera being the first and then only K mount FF DSLR, they'll may price it even above the mentioned cameras. That is just too rich for my blood. Especially considering that cameras like a Sony A7 can be now bought for about 1000 /$ and by the end of the year likely even less. An A7 might be just what I need to give my old Takumars a go on a FF camera.

Cell phone / mobile data plans in the US?

Hi. My question is not photography related, but I guess there are people here who have the knowledge.

My two kids are going to be exchange students in the US for the next school year 2015-2016. One will be living in Ohio, the other's state and city are still unknown. Amongst other things, I'm wondering what would be a good choice regarding cell phone and mobile data use. The kids don't really call or send traditional SMS text messages worth mentioning, but use almost 24/7 smart phone applications such as WhatsApp, Snatchat, Instagram, Spotify. I just checked what their monthly data use has been (on the current fixed monthly cost) and it has been in the range of 2-7 gigabytes. A huge amount. I think they will have to reduce that for several reasons, but listening to music and such, I think that some 1-3 gigabytes a month would be needed.

I'm also thinking if it would be wiser to bring their current non-operator locked iPhones from Europe to the US or get new ones from there. AFAIK, many operators used to use CDMA tech and not the GSM type that Europe has. I guess that still applies? And was it AT&T that uses the GSM type?

So, to conclude, what would you estimate it to cost to get a cell phone plan with 1-3 GB data per month and would it be better to bring their old phones or get new ones over there? Also, is there a big difference between the coverage of different cell operators and connection techs?

I guess I'll eventually buy the Pentax FF but not immediately after release. That's because they're obviously planning to make it to the technical and price level of a Nikon D8*0 and I'm more like the D6*0 price level guy. So when the price comes to that level, I'll bite.

It's interesting to see so much praise for the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 HSM lens. A have one and on my K-5 the results have been somewhat lackluster. But that may have to do with the poor accuracy of the K-5's AF. I guess I'll see what it'll be like on the FF Pentax. Eventually.

Actually tests like Photozone and Dxomark don't flatter that lens too much either. But I guess zooms and especially budget zooms rarely excel in tests.
