Thanks!

Yeah, Eureka is definitely a fun place. I think we saw signs for Myrtie May's but we did not eat there. Will give it a go when we go back in October.

I tell you what tho, Sonnys Pizza has the best pizza I have ever had! Period. I am a pizza fanatic and the pie that I got there....omg, I wanna go back right now.

Lol...thanks again.

Just realized this might be a little hard to see. If you tilt your head to the left while you look at the crop you can see her arm in the window.

Let me know what you think.

I actually enjoy power lines and telephone lines as a photo motif. I think its the stark industrialism that they project upon a landscape that makes me enjoy them so much. I try to shoot them whenever I can find them in a pleasing setting.

I think you photo is very well done. Im no expert by any means but it is very pleasing to my eye.

I like the dark foreground that contrasts with the lighter overcast clouds. Gives a heavy feel to the photo overall. And then the pylons rising up in a great thrust of industrial progress....nice.

The one bit of color in the Union Jack is very nice as well.

I would have been extremely proud to take this shot. :)

Went up to Arkansas this past weekend to check out Eureka Springs where my fiance and I are planning on getting married. Wonderful little chapel up there called Thorn Crown. Check it out on the web if you get a chance.

Had a weird experience tho....all weekend long all I saw were point and shoots. No DSLR's at all. Until this guy stops me while I am standing outside a photographers studio and says "Hey, is that a K10d?". I look over and this guy also had a K10d! We start talking and I find out that he is a member of this forum as well. How weird is that?

For the life of me I cant remember his nick. So if your out there reading this and its you please feel free to remind me!! Sorry, Im just horrible with names.

So anyway, Im shooting a few pics of this hillbilly band later and this other guy walks up and says "Hey, is that a D-ist*?". And Im like, ok, how weird is today going to get?

Turns out he shoots with an ist*, he just didnt have it on him. And he said he had posted a few things on the board. But, of course, I cant remember his name either.

So all weekend, no Canons, no Nikons, just a couple of Pentax K10's and 2 other people from the forum. What a weekend.

Unfortunately, the pics I took were nothing special. Here are just a few off the wall photos I kinda like.

I shot this a little while back and wanted to go ahead and post it. Nothing really special about the composition, its just the image I caught in my cats eye. I was messing around with a 70-200mm lens with a macro function on it that I picked up on Ebay for 20 bucks.

I noticed while shooting my cat (experimenting with eye clarity) that I was picking up the reflection from the window in the room in her eye. After a few other shots, I asked my fiance to stand by the window and hold her arm out. After many frustating shots (due to cats not being the most co-operartive of models) I managed to take this shot.

The main pic is Tattercat just laying in the sun. the crop show the reflection in her eye of my fiances arm. You can see the bend of her elbow and her hand.

Thought it was pretty cool. Was going to post this in the pet thread but there is already like 50 something pages.

So this is Caprice Tattercat the Ace of Spades. (Thats her Pound name when I got her{Caprice}, the name I gave her {Tattercat} and her Title {The Ace of Spades}) All animals are royalty of some sort in the animal kingdom. You just have to find their title as time goes by.

Please enjoy 'reflections of love in a cats eye'.

Guys, thanks so much for the feedback and comments. Its really great to have a supportive arena of fellow photographers who give tips and encouragement and, when needed, harsh feedback.

Im very happy that my photos seemed to past muster and were pleasing enough to you that you made favorable comments. This is very encouraging and helps me stay in a photographic state of mind.

Now I just have to get out and shoot more. :) Thanks again.

Hmmmm...the part about K10d's being expensive. I just bought mine a few weeks ago for 699 body only and the kit lens by itself for 99. This was at Wolf camera so I would try any Wolfs or Ritz Cameras that may be in your area. The salesman I talked to said they still had some in the warehouses and they werent flying off the shelves.

But if getting a K20d is a possibility then you might want to go for that. Same great camera with even better resolution. I love my K10 but would upgrade if I could. I will probably have my K10 until the K30 comes out and the K20's drop in price. :)

Tough call, but at least you get to make it. :)

Thanks Ole. I like your idea about the horizon. I remember reading somewhere in my self teachings of photography that a horizon line in the middle of a photo was the preferred way to shoot it.

But I have always preferred a very low or very high horizon line. Just adds something to a pic I guess.

Anyone else out there who is wiling to critique these please?

By the way, I really like to use dark spaces, negative space and sillouhuettes. So the darkened ground was intentional. I like it, but does it make a good photo?

Well, I have been shooting on and off with a rebel xt for a couple of years while I played around with photography. I have recently decided to get more serious about my photography which I know will involve effort, time and schooling of some sort. Thats why I ditched the rebel and got a real camera (K10d). :)

So I went down to a local lake close to where I live yesterday morn as the sun rose and snapped off some photos. I have chosen 5 of the ones that really catch my eye and I would like your opinion mainly on the different compositions and which is more pleasing. And please mention why (rule of thirds, etc).

Also any other critique as well will do nicely. The pics were taken at either 100 or 200 ISO. I shoot in M and use the little green button to meter. (God thats freaking handy!). I used the kit lens and contrast is set to +2 and saturation is set to +1.

I know they are all rather similar but again I would like to know which has the most pleasing composition. Not much originality (sun rising over lake with tree) I know but hey...it was there and I shot it. Also, no post production has been done at all. Just straight jpegs from the camera that have been downsized.

Let me know what you think.

LOL......my god....I thought that was French. Somebody shoot me...

Well, that was embarrassing. Total brain fart. And I took 2 years of spanish in school and work with a lot of spanish speaking people. Im a retard.

But I did find the song! Benjikan, you might want to talk to your webmaster. I think he's been hitting a little bit of the ganja. The group is called UNKLE and the song is called Reign. Here is a link to a site with the lyrics.

SongMeanings | lyrics | UNKLE - Reign

Its an awesome song and it fits your website perfectly. Glad I found it and thanks for your help.

Hmmmm...

Found their website and the only mention I can find to Quermos Paz looks like it comes from their 2001 cd entitled La Revancha del Tango. I played the short clip from this and it sounded nothing like the song on your website.

The lyrics from that song are as follows...

Queremos construir una vida mejor para nuestro pueblo...
Independiente...
Queremos paz...
Queremos construir una vida mejor para nuestro pueblo...
Independiente...

Now granted, I dont speak French, but this doesnt sound like anything I heard in the song.

Do I have the wrong group?

I went to one of benjikans sites...

Benjamin Kanarek Photographer ftvstudio.com featured member

and there was a freakin awesome song playing. But I cant figure who is singing it or what it is called. The music player only has 'Queremos Paz' when it is playing.

I looked that up on the web and found a bunch of other songs but not the one on benjikans site. Does anyone know who sings this and what the name of the song is?

Benjikan, you out there?

The singer is male and keeps saying 'i am the rain'....i think.

Freakin awesome....gotta find out what this is.

K10d-debug menu-IR possible?
Posted By Bokeh

Kicking around the forums the other day and I found mention that it is now possible to get into the K10d's debug menu.

Then I remember a thread about how somebody was making IR ready K100d's. There was something in that thread about getting into the debug menu to, if I am not misremembering, adjust something so the settings would allow you to shoot handheld IR shots and still use the viewfinder to focus. Somebody replied to this with something like "Well, since you cant get into the K10's (or possibly K100d Supers's) debug menu then you cant use one of those for IR".

So my question is....if we can get into our K10d's debug menu can we now set up our cameras to do IR photography?

IR is something I would really like to get into and my plan is to invest in a K20d down the road and I would like to make my K10 my IR body.

Can anybody give any input on this?

K10d problems- please help

Mike, shutter speed was 1/180. Would the SR not work at this speed? I thought it would.

Didnt know the red light was only a problem with manual focus. Hmmm...still doesnt help my problem. I will have the little red light show up on what I want to be focused on and I get the little 'beep' that goes with it and take the pic. Then when I look at it what I shot is not crisp at all.

Grrrrr... I reread my initial post and it seems a little harsh. Just somewhat upset I guess. I love my K10d, the feel of it, the way its set up. But when it comes down to it its got to take the pics i need. I have seen many of the pics on this site taken by these cameras so I know its possible. Maybe I just got a bad one?

K10d problems- please help

Ok, I need some input on what to do with my K10d.

I have taken it our for a few different forays and overall I have not been impressed with the results. Now I will be the first to admit that I am not anywhere near the worlds best photographer but some of this is pretty basic.

I think my K10d has the backfoucus/frontfocus issue that I have recently been reading about. In alot of the pics I have taken the subject I have thought I was focusing on is not actually in focus. Most times they are just slightly out of focus, but enough to ruin the shot.

I have read in a few of the previous threads that apparently you cant trust the little red AF point when you use AF...so whats the freakin point in even using it. I never had a problem with this on the Rebel XT I used on and off for a couple of years. Is this a quality control issue with Pentax or just a crappy design. I mean, one of the things that attracted me to Pentax is a slight reduction in price compared to the mainstream competition, but not having a reliable AF is inexcusable. My K10d was cheaper, but it was still just under $1000. Thats NOT cheap. A D200 Nikon or Canon 40D is only a little bit more. So Pentax cant justify this kind of crappy performance.

Is it just me? Am I doing something wrong? I dont have any pics to show what I mean due to getting upset and deleting everything. But my experiance is similar to what others have described in some of the backfocus threads.

So here are my questions...(a couple pertaining to this problem and a couple generic)

1. What is the easiest way to fix a BF/FF issue?
2. What is this 8.1 thing I have read about (firmware I think)
3. I used photoME to look at my pic data-what does this mean?

SR result...............not stabilized
Shake Reduction...ON

does this mean SR was on but not used? Why would that happen?
4. Will I basicly just have to manual focus everything to ensure a good focus?

Please feel free to answer any or all of these questions. If it helps, my K10d's date of manufacture was 2007-09-06 and it is Model Revision 2.1. I am using the kit lens.

I really like my K10d, or I like what it can be. I want to be able to use this camera for a long time and eventually move up the Pentax line. But as a new user I am feeling let down. Please help restore my faith and tell me this can be fixed. At least somehow.

Thanks.

Okay, so if i get this little jewel in the mail and there is a Ricoh pin on it, how is the best way to have it removed.

And is there anyway to change the focal length while you are shooting or do you only get the menu when you turn it on?

And BTW, you guys are incredible on the amount of knowledge you have on Pentax gear. It is a great feeling to know that there is a community out there that I can turn to get information for stuff like this.

Thanks again.
