Issues with the Viltrox JY670 Ring Flash on my K3

There is at least one user on this site that feels strongly that it will. I, myself, have no idea. If it works, that is very cool. If not, you will have a voltage-safe adapter to use with vintage flash. B&H has the original Wein SafeSync for about $49.20 USD (LINK) and the Vello equivalent for $39.95 USD (LINK). Note that the Wein product will protect to a much higher voltage, should you ever need it for that purpose.

Note that a simple pass-through adapter with hot-shoe and PC out may not do the trick. The circuit isolation of a SafeSync-type device may be required.

This is an interesting theory and something that I wondered as well, though it would be difficult to test without a harness of some sort. It does not explain why the OP's flash showed the same behavior with an older film camera, though it is possible that camera has similar hot shoe controller.

Indeed. Me neither.

I just did a little more research on the Viltrox JY-670. The feature list definitely places it high on the desirability scale from my perspective. It is truly a shame that it has not offered consistent operation for several users on this site, otherwise I would seriously consider purchase myself.

:( :( :(

I can't remember hearing of any recent model flash that has a high trigger voltage, though a Safe Sync (or equivalent) should be considered with older non-Pentax flash. All Pentax-brand flash, regardless age, are safe on your camera.

As for brands/models of adapters, I am no help since I don't own one. I limit myself with the K-3 to the built-in flash, a Yongnou YN650 III, and a Sigma EF 610 DG Super.

Do you have an old film camera with a simple hot shoe that you can test with?

Now there is a concept and maybe even a viable solution.

The thread you linked to has a K-3 owner for which the flash worked fine and two that behave as you describe. I would place the blame on the manufacturer. The fix suggested on post #18 on the other thread indicates a control issue with the flash. The bits about firmware version are likely a red herring, though who can be sure. Adding a pass-through trigger or safe-sync is a good potential fix and might indicate that the flash has a mild short circuit that is alleviated by increasing the circuit resistance slightly.

I would contact the seller and arrange for an exchange or a refund.
