Just tried a Pentax m42 mount 50mm macro f4 and was able to get 95% full frame, first shot I tried, is good not great, next set much improved, focus very good, even at f4, next few at f11 exceptional, I would recommend this lens for slide copying. This slide is about 30 years old.

OK after much trial and Error, I think I got it, I messed with the focus and finally when I got what looked close the camera red dot popped on and beeped, so then I started messing around with diffusing the light and finally found a happy spot with an crackle Ice panel, shooting at 2 secs and f8. the lens is the Pentax Super-Multi coated TAKUMAR . On my Pentax K10D. I reversed the slide, then took a slide mount, split it and then slid it in with the slide to hold it tighter in the holder, there is so much slop, the slide sit in there canted to one side. Here is the results over the original picture, I can recognize the driver and the old man standing behind the tractor, this slide was developed in June of 1967.

Well I tried turning the slide both ways, emulsion/ Glossy to the camera, Tried f 11, f 8, f 16, best shot I can count the eyelashes on my daughter, but only center is in focus all edges are out of focus, I guess my next best bet is to try another lens. Speed is 4 to 10 of a sec.250 watt 5000 Lumins Daylight

To Not a Number...Yes I am doing both. I posted on page 2 as a mass answer, now I am trying to answer each individually. ---------- Post added 01-04-2019 at 07:46 AM ----------
Sorry brain fart, focusing wide open, close down to f 16 to shoot. ---------- Post added 01-04-2019 at 07:48 AM ---------- Sorry brain fart, focusing at f 4 wide open, shooting at f 16 closed down, I am going to try closing down to f 11 to f 8 as suggested above.

Wow, didn't expect all this response, I am shooting with Pentax SMC 50mm f 4 wide open at f 16, will try closing down to f 8 to f 11., speed is around 10th to 20 sec, shoot adjust and shoot, using Copy stand photo bulb 250 watt 4800K on my copy stand, about 4 feet away constant source of light. yes the slides have some bulge, but scanned them for years with no problem, I am now copying several 100 slides from Vietnam and the scanner is too slow, will read the article part 1 and 2 by Read. I am still digesting all of your suggestions and report back. Attached is a slide of me 50 some years ago on the mountain shooting with my Pentax SV with my 300mm f 6.3 and using a Clip On Light Meter. This is a slide I scanned years ago.

I have the Pentax Bellows and Duplicator, using a K10 with 55mm M42 lens with extension tube and getting pretty much full frame picture, BUT looking thru the view finder it appears dead on sharp, but when I take the picture and send it to Photoshop it is blurry and out of focus. What am I doing wrong? This is a picture that looked great when I shot it but the .jpg is out of focus,

In My Spotmatic and My clip on Light Meter for my SV I use a Energizer 357 Silver Oxide Battery and an 7/16' x 5/16" x 1/16" o-ring fits perfect. You can buy these batteries ANYWHERE, long life too!

The reason for my question was I am trying to achieve Stereo pictures, and am using the Cha-Cha method, place your weight on one foot, snap a picture, shift your to the other foot, snap a picture, I have tried 50mm and 55mm and am not satisfied, I have shot on a rail on a tripod taking two pictures, not really happy. Somewhere I read to use a 48mm lens, I don't have a 48, so was wanting to try the 28mm on my K10, with that is only 42mm. But that is better. Any suggestion?

Yes, that makes sense I thought that was the ratio, but it has been a while since I used it I wasn't sure, I am using my trusty Pentax K10 D, 28 mm takumar + 42 mm

I have gone blank, I think it was that if using a film camera on a Digital camera you multiplied the lens length by 1.r to get the resulting Length. Example 105mm lens X 1.5 equaled 157.5mm.
Do I remember correctly:hmm:?

I guess the other plus to the screw mount Pentax 500 f4.5 is that on my K10D is it would perform like it was 750mm.

If you had to choose between a Pentax 500mm F4.5 screw mount for under $500 or a Sigma 50-500mm F/4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM Lens for $1659 which would you buy, I started in photography with Manual lenses many years ago so the manual part isn't a problem, I think the anti shake mechanism in the Bigma is a waste of money with the built in anti shake in my K10D and I really have 50 to 300 pretty well covered in my other lenses, but to get up to 500mm I am rather limited in lense choices in my price range. $1600 is really about my budget limit. I am leaning to the Pentax 500mm fixed even though it isnt SMC, which can be corrected with a GOOD FILTER, CORRECT?

I am looking at the Sigma 50-500mm F/4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM Lens for Pentax SLR, it has built in Anti- Shake, thats kind of redundant as my K10D has anti shake built in isn't it. Is that a waste of money, what lense should I be looking at in the 800mm area?

Reformatting the card evidentially helped, and opening and saving the files in Picasa or Roxio saved the files. Will buy new card, BUT will also format the old cards more often.

They look good on the camera screen and the thumbnails look OK in the file saved to the computer, no problem until you try to open them in Photoshop, then you get the message, I have opened them in Roxio and Picasa both open them easily, when saved in either program they will then open in Photoshop. Adobe says other programs aren't as fussy as PhotoShop. Therefore they can work with them????

Reformated the cards in the camera, first test shots I took showed the same problem, hoping it is not the camera, will continue testing and report back.

I just returned from a photo shoot for a client and when I went to open the files I get this on about 1/3 of the pictures.
Blue Bar reads "PhotoShop CS5 Extended"
This file maybe damaged (the file maybe truncated or incomplete) Continue?
OK or Cancel are the choices.
.jpg and Raw files are both messed up.
I contacted Adobe and they can't open them either saying it must be a problem with my Pentax K10, I can open the .jpg files with Roxio Photo Suite and once saved I can open them in PhotoShop CS5, but the Raw files are still corrupt. What is the problem?:(

Also what would you recommend to replace the DA 3.5-5.6 18-55 that came with my K10 as a better replacement lense?

I currently have a Sigma 70-300 f 4-5.6, which I don't feel is overly sharp and needs bright sunlight to take good pictures, macro is good but at 300 it lacks crispness. So I want a fast lense that will get me to at least 300 and take great pictures.
