Hi there!
I stuck the part this Sunday. Things went quite well, and I reassembled the lens this evening, seems ok!
Thanks so much for your input, I'll let you know how things evolve as time goes by :-)

Hi Pentaxians :-)

I've been using my SMC Pentax-FA 28-200mm F3.8-5.6 AL [IF] as a cheap but efficient walk-around lens.

Main drawback is its zoom creep. I use a rubber band to prevent it from extending when I walk, but it looks like it wasn't enough...
In the photo below, the red framed part should stand attached to the green framed edge.

The lens is still usable by holding the front end when it's extended, but I'd like to try to repair it.

I tried sticking it with basic super glue but as you'd expect, it didn't stick anything.
It seems to be some kind of metal alloy. Any idea about how to stick it back ?

Best regards from Rennes, FRANCE.
Alex.

Does K-50 drive all EyeFi Mobi cards ?

Hi there :)

You can't use your K-50's EyeFi option with a Toshiba FlashAir card.
The availability of the card's WiFi is switched through the lock on the \DCIM\100__TSB\FA000001.JPG image on the card :

Great explanation can be found on Olympus dedicated Q&A page.

Which version is your card ? Mine is W-03.
Did you format it ? If you did, whether it's from PC or camera, you may have to use the configuration software to restore required files.
For further downloads, you can check this official page.

Hope this helps.
Best regards.
Alexis.

Is there an emergency work-around for the aperture motor failure on the K-50?

I gladly noticed it also works with more recent AF lenses as long as they come with an aperture ring, such as the SMC Pentax FA 28-200mm F3.8-5.6 I just bought out if eBay :-)

I also had the feeling it could be a version of the Soligor from Google results.
Well, guess I'll have to get it to check its quality ! :)

Thanks a lot for your time ;)

Yeah you're right, it looks a lot like the Soligor 28mm f/2.8 w/ 62mm filter thread presented as the 2nd lens on this review except those are M42 mounts and sold one is a Pentax K.
Looks great ! :D

Hi BigMackCam,

Thanks a lot for your answer ! :)

That's what I thought but wasn't sure, looks like bargain to make here, not sure it's equivalent to a Close Focus version though. Seller announces MFD at 36cm. :)

Hi there ! :)

I'm having much fun using my 50mm F1.7 on my K-50 which gives me great results but I feel like adding a wider 28mm to my collection to move on from portrait to larger scene takes :)
Searching ebay, I noticed this little Flexar MC 28mm F2.8 which seems in good condition and fits in my budget. I've been quite surprised by the 62mm filter thread and seller confirmed it's a 6 blades diaphragm.

It isn't in the database and don't seem to appear much on the net, does any of you have knowledge about this lens ?

Thanks in advance for your concern ! :)
Alexis.

Does K-50 drive all EyeFi Mobi cards ?

Hi all ! :-)

I finally got myself the 32GB version of the Toshiba FlashAir W-03 and I have to say it works like a charm, just the way I expected !
No cloud or subscription here, only direct access to the photos located on the SD card.
The Android FlashAir app takes 3-5sec to connect to the card's WiFi and then downloads thumbnails in an acceptable timing. I can then browse images, find the one I want to download, quickly process it if required and share it the next second. Overall process from shot to share takes less than 2 minutes, processing included, and that's exactly what I was looking for.

The only drawbacks I can think of :
  • it disconnects my phone from my current WiFi until FlashAir app is closed but that's really minor to me, and there's a workaround if you need it for long shootings, didn't try it though ;

  • it drains little more battery than my regular SD card but that was expected. For longer use, it is possible to enable/disable WiFi directly from the camera by protecting/unprotecting a dedicated image on the card, cf. p9 ot the PDF FlashAir manual.

Didn't notice low transfer to the PC when inserted in the card reader to unload it, but I wasn't very focused on it ^^

Thanks again to all of you who answered here and helped me choosing the right stuff for my needs.
To the others looking forward to add WiFi ability to their stuff, please don't hesitate to ask any question, I'd be glad to help now :)
Alex.

Thanks JohnX,

That's what I read too, and it really reads like what I need, definitely going with Toshiba on this matter.
I'll let you know how it went in a few weeks, thanks again for your inputs ;)

Hi JohnX, thanks for your answer.
I was considering the Toshiba's as it's much cheaper, but can you enable/disable the wifi from the camera ?

Hi Stevebrot, thanks for your input.

I already had a look at their website but what bothers me with the EyeFi Mobi is that it automatically transfers ALL the photos, and I don't want that, just want to, for example, be able to get a nice shot of my daughter on my android to be able to share it quickly to my family.

Hi Ppppsssstttt, and many thanks for this detailed answer ! :D

That's not confusing at all, and conforts my position upon EyeFi cards : not for me ! I feel like this brand is trying to force through thanks to their dominant position on this market... Their products are very expensive and the difference between Mobi and Mobi Pro cards are just unfair to me. And their EyeFi cloud pirouette to get monthly cash feels almost indecent...

Hi Dakight, thanks a lot for your sharing.

Maybe someone else tried other wifi capable cards, like Transcend's for example ?

Hi all,

I plan to invest in a wireless solution in order to be able to quickly share my K-50 shots through my Android phone.
I've been looking at those Eyefi cards and was wondering if the transfer feature allowing to choose which photos to transfer of the K-50 was usable with the Mobi or if I had to get a Mobi Pro ?
I can't imagine uploading all my photos to my phone and the protected photos first hack doesn't look much handy...

Thanks in advance for your answers here, have a good day, wherever you are ! ;)
Alexis.
