What is the state of Pentax MF??

Fuji's GFX 100 already has IBIS, so I think they'll need something more than that to remain competitive. Maybe they'd be able to partner with someone for a whole new FF 645 chip...like they did with the 645D and Kodak...

Speed would primarily be dictated by pixel density, and if it was an 80mp FF 645 with modern image processors, it'd be faster than the old 645z.
Video should just be forgotten entirely in MF, imo.
IBIS would be great.

If they could manage a FF645 at 7k$ or so, it'd be a real winner.
They have to do something, or forfeit to Fuji

Well if Pentax is still truly in the MF game. I suspect a FF 645 will be needed to compete. Even if it's less than 100MP, a FF 645 would be great!!

That is interesting...If true I'm curious how they will differentiate themselves from the Fuji offerings. I think they will need to be the first ones to offer an affordable non-crop 645 to be competitive.

I can't find much about if Pentax has dropped MF, but the 645D came out in 2011; The 645D came out only 3 years later in 2014.....so we are now 6 yrs on with no successor to the 645Z

I'm just curious if there's any news?

Did Fuji MF defacto kill the Pentax MF line? They used to be the only "affordable" digital MF game in town.

Part of me hopes Pentax is still in the game here.....but another part doesn't see how they could realistically compete with Fuji's latest offerings, and would rather have them focus their R&D on the FF, and APS-C lines that I use instead lol

People using multiple systems, which is your next favorite brand after pentax?

MFT is more compact. I love my GX85 kit. I keep it at low ISO though. It does high enough for anything I need. I rarely find myself needing above 3200 even with my K1.

The KP is no slouch for compactness either if you exclusivity match it with the small primes

ACDSee is my go too. It's a very powerful program that can do a lot for a good price.

Do ccd sensors have better color than cmos?

There was something I read about CMOS and CCD having non-linear, vs linear falloff of sensitivity in shadows and highlights. Don't remember the details, but there was a difference between the two

There is a difference. CCD and CMOS are not interchangeable as far as color fidelity are concerned. CCD is still used almost exclusively in many high-end applications for various reasons. My own testing confirmed a difference. Read the link above that was posted....that's got some info.

This is one of the long exposures captured on my K10D recently. Took the exact same pic with the K1 in crop mode using the same lens. There was almost no color in the sky on the K1 version, no matter how much editing I did. Maybe using a 10-stop ND brings out these differences more; who knows.

At base ISO CCD tech is more sensitive to small color variations and tonality. There is a difference. CMOS is far better at high ISO.

Camera's went CMOS because CCD tech was more expensive, consumed more power, and didn't perform as well at high ISO.

I have taken my K10D out and shot it alongside my K1 with the exact same lens and found there were colors in the K10D file that I could not replicate in the K1 image no matter how much editing I did; the colors simply weren't captured by the K1

Welcome!

I use a Yongnuo trigger and system. They work great for full manual. Never had a problem. I will probably be switching to a Godox trigger and system that supports pentax ttl and high-speed sync.
