Looks pretty close to sepia for me, and as far as I know my monitor is calibrated very accurately in color and gamma.

Although I must say it is a tad bit on the yellow side, its not too saturated, but it gets slightly into green in some areas, when I slide the hue -4 in photoshop it fixes it though.

My DA II 18-55 (same optical formula as the DAL) is soft (glows) wide open at 55mm as well. I think its normal for the lens and it goes away when you stop it down a bit.

Nothing to worry about.

Desktop died - what is important in replacement?

The way to get the most value, is to your machine yourself. It can sound scary but really isn't. It is quite easy. The most important, in my opinion, is you should have at least 4 GB of RAM (DDR3 if possible, and this means you will be running a 64bit OS as said). 4 Seems to be on the average/good side of RAM amounts. I would say a Dual Core is acceptable, but a Quad Core is preferable... Right now you can get an AMD Phenom X4 for a really good price. And as for internal hard drives, i would recommend making sure they have a disk speed of at least 7200rpm. This improves reading/writing speed considerably. Most motherboards now don't have terrible integrated graphics. So you can look at a decent video card if you want.

The more you spend now, the longer it will be up to date. Building yourself means you won't have a manufacturers warranty, but you can save a lot of money over buying from HP, or Dell ,or Gateway, etc.

There are package deals and barebones that make the process a lot easier too, to where all you have to do is pick out your hard drives and more ram if you want it, they send you the parts, and you put it together. Removes a lot of the chance for choosing incompatible parts.

Though my hometown bridge is narrow, I find the Bridge of the Gods at Cascade Locks much more terrifying due to its sheer height.

My DA 35 Ltd.
Its my only limited lens so it might not be a fair competition.
Though I have been impressed with my two M series primes.

Take a look at the Tamron 70-300 Ld Di
It is within your price range at about $115
It offers extra range, and even has a modest macro mode on it (between 180mm and 300mm it offers closer focusing by flipping a little switch).

Well it was the first time in two months where it wasn't raining, cold, and overcast sky.

It was actually bright enough to take a picture, and nice enough for a ride.

It sat for a while over the snow so I was forced to kick-start it.

My ruckus was as surprised as I was.

Walkaround: DA 35 vs. Tamron 17-50 or similar

It is somewhat slow if you're going from say, infinity, to focusing to something a few inches away. But what lens wouldn't be?

If the distance of the object is relatively close where your lens is focused, it snaps into focus fine in my opinion.

I use my DA 35 as my walkaround lens.

Small, light, well made, and sharp sharp sharp. It doesn't have the prettiest bokeh, but its close focusing ability more than makes up for that.

I only use my 18-55 when I need something wider, for landscapes, etc.
