[SOLD] SMC Pentax-M 50mm F1.4 (CONUS)

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing

Item for Sale
SMC Pentax-M 50mm F1.4

Asking Price
$75 USD

Item Location
Salt Lake City, Utah

Item Description
Lens: SMC Pentax-M F1.4
Serial Number: 6762154
Some dust specks in the lens, but nothing substantial or that will affect image quality.
Focus and aperture rings snappy and smooth.
Front and rear elemnts have no scratches.
Exterior looks almost new. It may show some signs of wear, but I can't see any.
Lens Review: SMC Pentax-M 50mm F1.4 Lens Reviews - Pentax Lens Review Database

If I had the original back, I'd probably rate this lens Excellent.

Comes with:
Pentax 49mm Skylight filter (looks somewhat used)
Asahi Pentax cap. Silver paint worn off. Says 49mm on the inside. (Not sure if it's the original.)
Non-original generic back cap.

This is a great way to try out some quality brand name fast glass at an inexpensive price.

Would consider a trade towards an FA* 24mm F2.

All Pentax M lenses (and A lenses) are K mounts. To MY knowledge, there are no M42, Pentax lenses, they instead are Takumar (super, smc, super multi-coated)..

Good luck Clinton..

m42 refers to a screw-thread type mount, used by Pentax before they introduced the bayonet type K-mount. The Pentax-M lens series uses the K-mount, the M designation does not refer to the m42 mount and Pentax-M lenses will not be usable on camera bodies with the m42 mount. Hope this makes sense!

(Nice lens by the way :-) )

sorry if this is a dumb question, is this a manual or auto lens, mentioning its a fast glass makes me think its automatic.. if so consider it sold.

This is manual. They mean it is fast as in it allows a fast shutter speed because a lot of light can get in quickly because of the large aperture.

Also, this is a great lens at a good price. I paid about $100 for mine and I love it. Perfect for low light conditions and hand-held shots.

There is an auto focus one for sale too.

It's fully manual, meaning that you have to set the aperture on the lens itself, not via the camera, and it's manual focus.

You can use "stop down metering" to handle the manual aperture, although honestly, if you're stopping this lens down much beyond F4, you may as well break out other glass. Up to F4, you shouldn't have any issues using focus assist in the body with the lens stopped down.

What I've done is just set the camera for aperture priority, and shoot away.

If you want the full auto (camera controlled aperture and auto-focus) you'll have to go to the FA 50/1.4 (around $350 here in the forums) or the DA* 55/1.4 ($650 I think)

Hope this helps! Someone should buy this lens

Yes, it's a K mount. All the Pentax-M series are K mounts.
