Update on noise on focusing ring

Update: I initially hear some noise upon turning focusing ring and after two days of use and general common sense cleaning with repeated rocket blower to remove small dust and use of clean dry cloth around the edges of the focusing ring, the noise is gone. It is likely caused by sand particle and debris trapped around edge after long duration of inactive use in a camera bag. The focusing ring is smooth and appear normal.

Night Test Shots wide open f/2.0

Along my way home with visit to REI checking on restocking of Ultrapod II, I did these test shots all hand-held without tripods. I try to shoot all in wide open f/2.0 to see how the 50mm does. It does quite well, mistakes are mine as I get a bit tired usually and I was hungry at 8:00pm -- the worst time to take test pictures. But I want some sample pictures and here they are fresh out of my K100D with no modification except rotation and perhaps one or two with minor cropping and shadowing in Picasa.

All test shots done hand-held without tripods and bracing from nearby objects

#10 A ghost if you spot it in 1/3 second shutter

#11 My personal best is 1/4 second shutter without SR for a clear shot and a 1/2 second with SR on, I try 1/2 second without SR

Flickr: More detail about IMGP5665

I hope this lens find a great home. When I use my FA 50 f/1.4, I usually have Av set at f/2.0 or f/1.8 at night for the above type of shots . And I find that f/1.8 and f/2.0 are my dependable defaults to go after with my FA 50mm f/1.4. And this smc-a 50 f/2.0 does not disappoint, though not as fast, it does the job nicely for me except that I am a bit off tonight.

If I get another chance, I will show that this lens does more than what you would expect for a $45 bucks worth of Pentax fine glass. I am up for the challenge for a shoot out with your f/1.4, f/1.7, f/1.8 with my f/2.0, call it fair and square even if yours is AF and I can compete with your tripod with my bare hands if you are thinking of tripods : And if I have this lens over the New Year, I may think twice to keep it as a backup but that thought contradicts with my resolution to do it with less. And here is another thought I have, if I sell my FA 50 f/1.4 for $170 and keep this 50 f/2.0, I can save even more ....., offer and comments are very welcome.

Thanks,
Hin

Slideshow & exif links

Slideshow of test pictures:

Photoset:
SMC-A 50mm f/2.0 Test Shots - a photoset on Flickr

For exif:
  1. click on a picture thumbnail
  2. click on 'more properties'

[update: of course, I am bluffing on my statement in using my f/2.0 to compete against others in using 50mm f/1.7, f/1.8 and f/1.4. Obviously I want to sell it before year's end to finance other gear in BBA and LBA and donation to PentaxForums with Ultrapod II from Rei, but I do like the lens a lot, it exceeds my expectation with its f/2.0 and the focusing is very good in this lens.]

Hope all this finds a home before new year.
Hin
