This lens is only 6 months old. It was purchased from Japan and includes the warranty card. I have switched all my sports gear to Canon and this is far too nice a lens to have sitting around collecting dust.

I included the photo where I point to the only visible sign of wear on this lens. Aside from that small scuff it looks brand new.

From what I can tell Pentax may have stopped producing this lens all together now (although it looks like they still make the 600/4) so this may be the closest you'll ever come to getting a new version of it.

Hi Christopher,

Having just recently bought one of these (about a month ago), I'll be glad to give a hearty recommendation and a bump!

I already have and use a Tamron SP 300/2.8, and a Sigma EX 300/2.8 APO, and the FA* 300/2.8 is in a class by itself for this FL and speed. It focuses closer, is sharper wide open, controls CA and PF significantly better (tho the Sigma is good) -- and has a focus limiter to boot.

Two years ago, I would say that I'd never use such a big, heavy lens -- now this one almost exclusively is mounted on my K20 -- and I even finally popped for a Wimberley Sidekick to support it so I could try to do justice to this elite piece of gear. I use mine, usually with at least a 1.4x TC mounted on the tripod/Wimberley, and have its little brother (FA*300/4.5) on my K10 hanging from a shoulder strap to grab quick shots handheld -- It doesn't get much better than this (for Pentax ultra tele shooters at least :O) )

yup - I agree that it IS that good. I actually shoot it almost exclusively with a 1.4x also which is why I have always wished that Pentax made a 400mm F4. But in reality the image degredation with the 1.4x is manageable.

Thanks guys - I'm glad you like the shots. Even though I've moved to Canon for sports there's no way I'm giving Pentax up for the other stuff. When my wife and I go out and shoot together now I use the Canon and she uses the Pentax. I almost always prefer her shots - partly because she may be a better photographer than me and partly because of the fantastic Pentax glass

I can't tell you how much in pains me to get rid of this beautiful lens. It actually gathers a great deal of interest and has landed me work on its own because A) it is probably the most physically beautiful lens ever made. B)Nobody has seen one of these before so even hard core Canon and Nikon enthusiasts (who had no idea Pentax ever made something like this) want to pick it up and try it out.
