POTW 151 30 January - 13 February
Posted By: Clou, 02-05-2011, 04:50 PM

Welcome to the 151st edition of the Pentax Forum's Picture of the Week!

Thanks to Nomad for hosting last week and for passing the torch to me for this week.

This edition covers photos taken between January 31st and February 13th, 2011. That lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week! Not a bad deal, eh?

A special welcome to all new members: Join us old hands and post your shots from this week and last week!

POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax (and Samsung) cameras in the parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time.

So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week.

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Date: Sunday January 31st to Sunday February 13th 2011. Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Previous hosts: Each one is a hotlink to that POTW thread to look back at the previous POTW's.

Thanks for hosting this week, Clou, and to Nomad for last week. I hope I haven't jumped the gun, but it's Sunday afternoon here.

The tail ends of cyclones Andrew and Yasi dumped between 100 and 150mm of rain in this area on Friday night. This was one result.

Where's the bridge?

Ah. There's what's left of it.

From the other side.

Thanks for hosting Clou,

Hope no one was hurt Richard, nice photo coverage.

Snow again, about 5 inches today. So I took a drive. Color of the day was white.
Had to fuel up first:

Thanks, Tom. Your white shots made me think of the opening scenes of 'Fargo'. Brrr.

Luckily it happened at night and nobody was on the bridge. This section of the bike path is mostly recreational, so there wouldn't have been much pre-dawn traffic on Saturday. Just as well. It's a steep hill down to the bridge (not the straight-ahead bit, but round to the right behind the bushes) and stopping could have been a problem.

Richard.

@Richard: Thanks for posting some Yasi coverage and for the description. I tried to get some information about the cyclone on the media, but coverage was poor on this side of the globe. Fortunately few people were hurt - there is a lot of reconstruction work ahead. Hope that normal life will return soon.

@Tom: Yes, there is a 'Fargo' feeling in your pictures. I like the exposure on the bright side without losing too much tones in the sky and on the snow. The last one is a winner for me and asks for a print,

Thanks. Yasi was huge. The main block was 500km wide. We're 2,300km from where it landed and all we got was wind and rain - lots of it.

My first radio triggers (CTR-301P eBay jobbies) arrived, so had a brief play with them in the garden...

After few days chilly, finally we can play snow on this Saturday. Love FA50/1.4. The sun light is being added by Photoshop.

Hi Clou,

Thanks for hosting.

ohce, I see a few lines in each of your shots. Not sure if they are from PP or maybe from the upload here?

Clou, very cool water drip as I can see a mountain captured in the larger drop that is falling!

We went skiing today and I can't help but to camp out in the terrain park for a little while when I go.

Thanks for hosting Clou. I barely had time to touch my camera all week and when I did the weather was decidedly bleak and cold.
I took this rather ordinary shot in my front yard Saturday as a safety shot for the Project 52 wide challenge:

And this at a downtown park today:

Great stuff here:
Clou - the landscape in the drop is fantastic!
Rob1234 - I like the photos but the lines seem unnatural. I think those shots would be great without them!
Nomad - great color in that first terrain park shot! I love the contrast with all that winter drabness.

I've been seeing eagles a lot lately. This one was feeding on a coyote carcass not far from the road on Saturday. On the way to skiing it was snowing too hard to try and shoot this but on the way home, the bird (or another similar one) was back or still there and the light was much better:

Then yesterday I did a nice XC/BC ski tour for a few hours. Not much wildlife, but still pretty scenic!

It's Winter Carnival time again! Up here in the north country, a little thing like winter doesn't put a damper on the fun! Here's some outhouse races, some snowmobile pond skimming, and some folks taking an afternoon dip in Lake George.
