POTW #177 Aug 14, 2011 - Aug 27, 2011
Posted By: baro-nite, 08-21-2011, 09:09 AM

Welcome to edition 177 of the Pentax Forum's Picture of the Week. Thanks to Davidw0815 for hosting the previous edition!

This edition covers photos from Aug 14 - Aug 27, 2011. That lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax (and Samsung) cameras in the parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time.

So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week. A special welcome to all new members!

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favourite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Here are the links to previous POTW threads:

I'll kick things off with some post-processing fun.

Got a so-so shot of a hummer this morning. I was shooting from a road bridge, looking down toward a creek; the muddy creek bottom gave the shot a light brown background. When my wife saw the thumbnail of the shot, she said, "looks like a Chinese painting". So,

Thanks for hosting Baro-nite, you're off to a good start.

Took this one down the alley while walking the dogs this morning:

Yesterday morning there was some fog so I went out to the country:

Robin -- thanks! Love your nostalgic still life.

Dave -- lovely set; #3 my favorite. Hope you didn't suffer too much from the 'skeets to get those.

Tom -- great set. The Rose of Sharon is beautifully detailed and I like the color rendering. I think #2 is just great! I don't know why; it's just a captivating composition of a simple subject. #3 and 4 -- some classic NW Ohio skylines. #4 is very subtle with an interesting interplay of (power) lines.

Jeff -- speaking of nostalgia, fascinating work you're doing with the trains.

xjjohnno -- who knew pelicans could be so funny? Also like how on #1 the yellow paint is echoed in the bird's plumage. I envy you the birds of Victoria!

Another from the same café, this time a slightly different treatment. You not only get to see the façade of the building, but also my beautiful wife.

baronite that is excellent! +1 for taking wife's advice and +1 for great execution!

Robin -- lovely portrait. The lighting is perfect.

Dave -- those shots really capture your pal's personality. #2 is utterly charming. If rather dusty!

arrondee -- beautiful color work. In the sunglasses shot it is subtly amusing how you focused on the sunglasses-shaped sticker. Contrariwise in the clown shot it is the background figure at left who adds a nice touch of humor.

crewl1 -- thank you on both counts!
