POTW #178 Aug 21, 2011 - Sep 3, 2011
Posted By: baro-nite, 08-28-2011, 09:08 AM

Welcome to edition 178 of the Pentax Forum's Picture of the Week. Thanks to baro-nite for hosting the previous edition!

This edition covers photos from Aug 21 - Sep 3, 2011. That lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax (and Samsung) cameras in the parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time.

So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week. A special welcome to all new members!

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favourite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Here are the links to previous POTW threads:

It's Sunday so I must be at Duke Gardens chasing birds. Fortunately they're quite tame. The resident GBH posed obligingly:

then flew off on cue. I think it was annoyed that the guy next to me was shooting with Canon gear:

Or maybe the bird couldn't stand the idea of this lad being indoctrinated into Nikon (his dad, walking behind, had his own Nikon DSLR, on a tripod):

I finished up with some close-up work. A canna leaf:

Friday Night Lights pt. 2

Thanks Baro-nite for hosting again and the shots from Durham. The lad with anchor around his neck might soon be in line for a spinal adjustment.

lukulele: good pair of football pics, sums up the game nicely -- some action, and some waiting on the refs!

Dave: that wide-open space captures the feel of a small-town sports park. That is a serious tailgating rig in #1.

xjjohnno: I was just too disorganized to find a new host for this week, but I will next week. Nice set of bird pics, with #3 a winner for light, composition, bokeh.

Here's another shot of wild turkeys from my Blue Ridge Parkway trip:

Likely enough, if you're willing to wade into a bog after them!

We've been dealing with a Irene for the past few days but the power is on so I'm finally getting a little time on the computer. I didn't get any storm shots as I was out working in it but here are some shots here in Corinth on the day after. These are the Hudson River at the town beach. We came through pretty unscathed but in the surrounding areas, many roads are cut and still impassable due to blowdowns and washed out roads. It was beautiful Monday with little indication of Sunday's storm other than some debris. At least here, the river never approached the levels we had in April although the flood gates were opened on the dam so they have experienced some record high water downstream. A few folks were back out enjoying the beach yesterday. All shot with the DA 15.

Baro-nite,
Which segments of the Parkway did you visit this trip? Loved the droplet surface tension on the canna. Thanks for the Sauratown reference which I did not know.
Dave, those open skies look very inviting.
Reeftool, what a contrast from the footage from Vermont.
Jeff and xjohnno, nice!

Jeff - nice bokeh on those flowers well done.

lukulele - thanks for comments

This guy hasn't got nmuch time - fall is in the air

Little green around home

Urban Bunny

I lied down on the grass and tried af.c on this one. This was about the 4th shot in the sequence. I missed the focus however af.c is beffer for sideways action than head on , still I like it

Vermont and the areas you are seeing on the news aren't too far away form me. Lake George, just up the road has severe flooding damage. We were fortunate this time although we had our 100 year flood in April where most of the beach in that scene was under water. I think I posted in POTW back then. I also have some of those shots in my Single in May album in the Forum. It's been a tough year for floods around here.

Hi all,
Thanks for hosting, baro-nite. I really like your shot of the drops on leaf.
@daacon: Great shot of the urban bunny.

So, here is what I've been doing the past days:

Japanese-style garden in Frankfurt at night (K50/1.2, ISO400, 1/25):

IG Farben building (K50/1.2, ISO400, 1/25):

The reason I don't need to go away on vacation (K24/2.8, ISO200, 1/100):

Hello again, everyone! Here are a few recent ones. I just picked up a ZX-5 last week:

A couple of macros. This with a DAL 18-55 reversed at 55mm:

This with my "new" F 35-70mm lens that came with the ZX-5. In "macro" mode and helped with a bit of cropping:

Does this count as "street photography"???

And finally a little color:
