POTW #179 Aug 28, 2011 - Sep 10, 2011
Posted By: pentaximus, 09-04-2011, 09:00 AM

Welcome to edition 179 of the Pentax Forum's Picture of the Week. Thanks to baro-nite for hosting the previous edition!

This edition covers photos from Aug 28 - Sep 10, 2011. That lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax (and Samsung) cameras in the parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time.

So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week. A special welcome to all new members!

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favourite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Here are the links to previous POTW threads:

Well, times are pretty tough here at Pentax Forums, so they've asked little old me to host POTW.

I'll get things started with a few from my first roll of film shot with the ZX-5 I showed you last week. I wish you could see the actual prints. I was really pleased!

I thought this was good enough to enter into this month's photo contest, Trees. Wish me luck!

Our local courthouse:

A formerly glorious abandoned house:

A good subject for black and white:

And in honor of the happy return of football:

Here's to a great week!

daacon, I really like the cloud reflections on the buildings in the first two. And the sky is a wonderful deep blue. Polarizer used here, or no?

For the Single in September challenge here on the forum I am dragging around my recently repaired DA* 16-50 this month. Here are a couple shots from a visit to the local bird sanctuary.

Have not had much chance for some pics- busy busy, arranging for my induction service as the new pastor of a local church. But did get some pics-these are a selection

This Wasp decided it likes my kitchen

A trio of Cutie-pies

Mantis in Seoul

Praying Mantis in the neighborhood in Seoul. He (?) looked injured but no one had bitten his head off yet.

Wow, I like the international scene we have going here: Canada, South Africa, Korea. Still, I call upon my fellow Americans to snap a few shots this Labor Day and show 'em to us!

daacon: I'm really becoming mesmerized by that second shot. I love how there are so few clouds in the sky behind the building, yet it is loaded with the reflection of clouds behind you. I'm not big into photoshopping, but I might not mind cloning out those few remaining clouds in the sky to accentuate the contrast even more.

jmschrei: Beautiful scenes and colors. Lovely painting-like reflections in the waters. Those are the kind of shots that I just want to walk into. Or, in this case I might like to have a small boat.

noelcmn: Kind words, sir. Thanks! Yes, home invaders such as wasps are very likely to have a mugshot taken in my house as well. I love, love the one of the girls. Fantastic! "Intensity" is right with the young lady, and the background ended up framing your subject nicely. Well composed shot. And "light and shadow" makes for a very interesting portrait. So much to discover in that one. I think I would like to study a larger version of that one.

nosliwmit: I'm really a fan of mantises. Such beautiful creatures and fascinating to me. (And boy I wouldn't mind having a 35mm 2.8 Ltd Macro to shoot them with! ) Nice body detail in the first one. Not easy with that shallow DOF you have going there! Well captured.

daacon: That looks like a fun time! I want some of Kerstin's chocolate ice cream. And I'm wondering if all those musicians performing at the same time isn't hard on the ears?

lukelele: That last one might be a candidate for the current Project 52-4-1 "People: Work Related." Just a thought. The first one with the pumpkin and blossom has nice color and composition. And the blues in that big, foggy landscape are just dreamy. Reminds me of a stay on Screamer Mountain in Clayton, GA. Good stuff.

Southern Maine coast.

Some shots from a day trip along part of southern Maine's coastline. The big house belongs to one of our former Presidents. George W.

lukulele - nice pumpkin, that would make a great Jack-O-Latern. Love the rolling hill landscapes.

pentaximus - thanks for the comments - the place was large enough the musicians were well spread out.

wendl - always love docks and boats. Love the second last shot as well.

last of the 'downtown series'

Shot 'from the hip' on the first two - not much of a street photographer but once in a while I give it a go. Missed focus on #1 but it still gives a decent shot.

The clouds, wow, the clouds, Daacon. The Subway patron reminds me of Richard Harris in The Count of Monte Cristo.
Pentaximus, #3, a Flannery O' Connor short story setting.
Wendl, the stone work in Maine is superb.
The macro insect sharpness is impressive all.
A great start this week
