POTW #185 9 Oct 2011 - 23 Oct 2011
Posted By: pentaximus, 10-16-2011, 09:02 AM

Welcome to edition 185 of the Pentax Forum's Picture of the Week. Thanks to lukulele for hosting the previous month's worth of POTW's!

This edition covers photos from 9 Oct 11 to 23 Oct 2011. That lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week

POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax (and Samsung) cameras in the parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time.

So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week. A special welcome to all new members!

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favourite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Here are the links to previous POTW threads:

Welcome to POTW 185. How time flies!

I think lukulele is on vacation per doctor's orders after hosting a zillion straight POTW's. So you're all stuck with me.

I'll start the ball gently rolling with a few items:

My "eye" phone

And these two are from my back porch this morning:

Mystery film atop a bucket full of science project

Rocks stained with good ol' Georgia red clay

Okay, show us what you've got...

These are from a walk in the Alps today.

It was close to this lake

Tegernsee - anderer Blickwinkel

It was good to follow the signs:

This way

But there were views as reward:

House, Mountains and Sky

There were planes above:

Take that turn

Thanks Pentaximus for hosting this week and all of you for supporting POTW. If you haven't hosted yet, please step up and let a host know you're ready to keep this rolling successfully with great shots from around the world. A quick escape to Pipers Gap, Va., Ashe County Cheese, and the New River.

I shot each poet who read at the Cuisle International Poetry Festival 2011 this week, using my FA Limiteds (of course). I'll put a couple examples here and a couple in the FA Limited thread.

The lighting conditions are generally pretty dire, but I did OK with my K20D at ISO 400, aperture f/2. Generally I needed to do significant cropping. I used one of my "signature" processes to get this B&W look.

The first photo is from the FA43 and the second the FA77.

Clou--Ahhh, yes. Just a typical Sunday stroll through the Alps! What beautiful scenery, and I see that snow has already fallen. Thanks for sharing!

StDevious--Nice shot to show off that FA50 1.4! Now, if that is at f2.2, I'm wondering if anything would be left in focus at f1.4?

lukulele--The barn shot causes total flashback to my grandparents' property. I lived literally a stone's throw from a barn just like that when I was a kid. Love the monochrome for that one.

rparmar--Congratulations on the book and thanks for sharing these here at POTW. I enjoyed the whole series on flickr. Go check it out everybody!

TOUGEFC--Thanks for dropping in. Lovely BW portrait! Where was the astronaut shot taken?

I was shooting another car show this weekend. Cloudy, windy, and cold. Not a big turnout but a good collection of nice old classics.

Thank you for saying so. I must mention that the shots render too soft here in the forums. On Flickr they are just fine - with the balance between sharp and not so sharp that I was looking for.

Taking photos of people reading is a challenge since it's not the most exciting of activities. I refuse to use a flash on a performer and only take a few shots before I put the camera down and simply listen.

Robin - I really like the series. Sometimes I have the occasion to take photos of events, but usually i cannot present these here.

A few more from the walk in the Alps and down at the lake.

It was possible to see very far:

VERY FAR (I posted another photo of the same mountain taken last year, but I like this one as well):

The sun was already behind the mountains:
