POTW #192: 27 Nov 2011 - 11 Dec 2011
Posted By: pentaximus, 12-04-2011, 09:44 PM

Welcome to edition 192 of the Pentax Forums' Picture of the Week. Special thanks to rookie host brvnara for hosting the previous week and inviting me to host this week.

This edition covers photos from 27 November - 11 December 2011. That lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax (and Samsung) cameras in the parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time.

So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week. A special welcome to all new members!

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Here are the links to previous POTW threads:

Welcome to a new week of POTW. I'm back in the driver's seat and sorry for the late start. My wife and I went to a Dwight Yoakam concert Saturday night for her birthday. Here are a few from that evening, all shot with PENTAX DAL 55-300 @1600 ISO:

If you can't get enough Dwight Yoakam and want more, the full set is here.

Welcome back Pentaximus,
Interesting lady at the Charlotte, NC airport observation area Saturday. Never moved when normal Airbus, Boeing, or commuter craft launched or arrived. When the large craft glided in she began 1960's waves and gyrations until the landing gear blue smoke streaked on touch down. A final landing celebration pose for Lufthansa and US Air on each occasion. Lufthansa nailed the landing. See POTW191 for touchdown.

Thanks for hosting again Pentaximus.
Here are some pics I took on Saturday afternoon. The City of Johannesburg is founded in gold, and scattered all around the city (well actually only north, south, east and west-No goldin the north) are the by products of the gold mines-mine dumps we call them. Well they are disappearing fast, as some genius has discovered a new method of extracting the gold dust from these sand heaps. Apparently he won a nobel prize for it? In any event, I went out looking for some interesting shots and these are the products.

Disappearing mine dump

Mine dump with the city in the background (Sorry I see I should have cleaned it up a bit-naughty me)

These horses live at the base of another mine dump.

Gold dust being blown to the wind.

And close by Soccer city, where the Soccer world opening ceremony as well as the cup final was held. An imposing structure.

ANd for good measure (hope its ok for me to post 7 this time round Pentaximus) I introduce my latest model-daughter of one of the members of my congregation. Such stunningly beautiful black eyes.

Have a great week pentaxians.

I don't imagine I will have much time for photography for the next while as I am scheduled for surgery today. I did manage to get into the backyard yesterday and capture morning light on the results of a windy and snowy week.

Four shots from out in English Bay on Sunday. Couldn't sail before noon - calm as a pond. Stopped our engine to wait for the wind and eat lunch, and got to watch the Spring Brave go through a fire drill. Once the wind was up, we went out past a shrimp boat, and then over to Point Atkinson.

lukulele: Hmmmm. I'm not sure what to say about that lady…

SpecialK: Looks like Santa might need a new #1 elf!

noelcmn: I guess we'll let you slide with seven. Very interesting about the gold dust. And that soccer building is quite a structure!

Bruce: So, when is (American) football season down there? Do the opposite seasons throw it off? It's a question I've never considered. How popular is the sport there? I especially like the classic pre-snap shot of the opposing lines.

jmschrei: As I said before, speedy recovery. Love your shots from the great white north!

Arn: Great water scenes! Especially like the one of Spring Brave. It really gives a sense of the enormity of that vessel!

Thanks, pentaximus. Yeah, Spring Brave was huge - most of the freighters in harbour are about half her size.

Thanks Pentaximus, the Sydney competition (or I should say NSW State competition as we now have teams from outside the Sydney Area) runs during the September - December period so it gets pretty hot in the gear. The timing is about right because the lads watch the NFL and College games down here. Not a huge competition, 9 teams in the NSW cometition not sure of the numbers in the other states, but the game has a viable competition in the 5 mainland States (so they evan have a national representative playoff every second year).

Some shots from last weekend and my new K5.
Saturday, my hometown of Corinth had the annual Hometown Christmas celebration. The shops were open late and they had fireworks on the beach.

The DA 15 on all shots.
