POTW #195: 18 Dec 2011 - 01 Jan 2012

Welcome to edition 195 of the Pentax Forums' Picture of the Week. Special thanks to Noelcmn for hosting the previous week.

This edition covers photos from 18 December 2011 - 01 January 2012. That lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax (and Samsung) cameras in the parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time.

So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week. A special welcome to all new members!

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Here are the links to previous POTW threads:

Merry Christmas!

First of all, Merry Christmas from GmcarsMAN!
I hope you are having wonderful holidays.

I know it's a little bit too early to start next POTW, but my location and schedule forced me to do it now. I'd like to apologize for this.

Here are a couple of shots:

My granny's utensils while she was preparing some pastry for Christmas Eve:

And my collection of license plates (the best thing is that I have got none from my country ):

Thanks for hosting, Gmcarsman.
As requested by Noelcmn yesterday, a shot of the beaver lodge. Getting the beavers is difficult as they aren't out much this time of year but I'm trying.

I had to shoot through the trees as I wasn't really prepared (clothes, boots, etc.) for shooting wildlife and habitats. I pulled off the road to grab a sunset shot and stumbled on the beaver lodge. I'll be returning from time to time now that I know they are there. Merry Christmas!

Thanks for hosting GmcarsMAN- what a great start to this thread. That pic of your gran's utensil creates a "I-can't-wait -or -it to-be-finished" atmosphere. Nice candid shot.
Reeftool, you continue to plug into my envy!
Special K- I have only one thing to say 'Teenagers-what can one say"! Great shot-I like it.
I mentioned I was going on a visit to family for this week. Travelled by aeroplane, partly clouy conditions as I left Johannesburg, and the plane got up to its usual altitude, above the clouds, and wonderful scenes from up there. I'll post just one of the several I took. Not easy as I sat at the window, with the full setting sun to my right. Got several with flares. This is one I like best. Arty feel to it

Thanks for hosting GmcarsMAN! Hope everyone has been enjoying the holidays. We spent Christmas Eve with my parents who despite being 77 and 83, moved to a little cottage outside a small town about 2 hours northwest of where I live. Last year they installed heat and this year they are adding an addition!

Thanks for hosting GmcarsMAN.
My son's Blue Heeler and some Bald Cypress trees in a low lying park in very overcast skies smc F 50/1.7 and a rose blooming for Christmas in Eastern North Carolina with an 18-55 WR. A great New Year to all of the POTW regulars.

GmcarsMAN: thanks for hosting, and for starting us off with a homely scene from gran's kitchen and a fun collection of license plates.

Richard, thanks for the beaver lodge photo -- our local beavers more often lodge in riverbanks.

Noel: fantastic clouds! The vertical/horizontal juxtaposition is clever and a good catch.

Joe: nice holiday spirit and I love that winter scene, both the color and B&W versions.

SpecialK: excellent fisheye work. Intriguing scene, a fun Christmas spirit with a reflective undertone.

lukulele: good doggy portrait, brings you into the subject's world as any good portrait should.

xjjohnno: thanks for the breeze of early summer!

I got into a dueling-cameras shootout this weekend:

Glad to have your commentary back Baro-nite. I see she's working on framing and composition. Bullwinkle on the tree is neat!

I'm late getting to this thread this week. Thanks for hosting GmcarsMAN! I have to ask xjjohnno about that second flower shot. What kind of flower is that? It looks just like a peach!

Here are a few from Christmas:

Colloqial name is something like eggs and bacon according to my mate who is an expert on native flora Pentaximus. The flower is about 5-10mm in size so quite tiny. I think the genus might be kennedea or something similar and growa on a spindly groung cover vine..

It's hard to judge the size from the photo. I love the "eggs and bacon" name!
