Picture Of the Week #79 - 09.06.09 to 09.20.09
Posted By: Bramela, 09-13-2009, 12:22 AM

A warm welcome to all members to Picture of the Week #79.
The last POTW, hosted by Dave, has been a brilliant success, with many top shots posted.
To all members out there : Dont be shy, put up one or more of your photos. It is not a competition, and there certainly wont be any criticism. Just interest in what you have been clicking. So lets see some new Pentaxians getting involved as well.
If you haven't posted photos before and aren't too sure how, just give as a query and you will find plenty of help from some very friendly people.

Once again same rules and really other than time frames there are no rules

1) No theme just your favorite stuff.
2) Let's keep it to about 4-6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.
3) Any Pentax camera is fine, film, P&S, DSLR (or Samsung DSLR)
4) Date : Sunday 09/06/2009 to Sunday - Sunday 09/20/2009. Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

Previous hosts: (each one is a hotlink to that POTW thread to look past at the previous 77 weeks Thanks to Peter who started the links it was a lot of editing )

Thanks for hosting POTW Bruce, been a long time since I was up around the Hunter River, lovely country there, thanks for the pics.
This little fella was a bit cranky and swooped me a couple of times, protecting its nest it was.

Nice shots,Johnno, I feel that one could spend the whole time pursuing and photographing Aussie birds. There are just so many beautiful specimens.
Yes the Hunter is a nice area, but a new dam is to be built and some of the nicest land and farm properties are to be flooded.
Lots of disputes over that one.

THanks for hosting Bruce not sure how active I will be this week as taking off for a few days but will contribute when I can.

Nice pictures of hunter valley - looks like you got quite a few from there very nice.

xjjohonno - you sure have a lot of birds and different species where you are I live the fist one the best.

heymissjo - nice , if you put out a spread they will come.

Some more from Fort Edmonton the pharamcy is more or less stocked with as many original items from the 1920's as possible. It' interesting to see some brands did survive and some not so much.

Party-Pooper

The birds were all aflutter in the back yard today (mostly robins playing grab-ass-- bullying each other and everyone else) so I set the DA*300mm up on the tripod with the AF1.7x, hoping to get some of the smaller birds (goldfinches, downys, flycatchers, etc.) but when I returned from a break to get a cup of coffee, they were all gone--except this one

UPDATE: followed by a Coopers (!)

Thanks for hosting Bruce, nice shots.
xjjohnno- first shot is exceptional.
Dave - Great old timey feel in the conversions
Heymissjo-I'm constantly amazed at what flys around wild in your neck of the woods.
Dadipentak- Nice hawk , What variety?

a couple of my "also ran"s from the project 52 thread shallow DOF.
The bracket fungus was also a test shot from a cheapo Carenar 50/1.8 that I recently aquired. Far better IQ than expected!

Off to a great start with some very nice shots. It seems birds are the flavor of the week

Heymissjo : They are nice Rosella shots. We mostly have the other type of Rosella around here.

Dave: Acouple of really well taken antique shots. I like the Sepia effect. Have a nice relaxing break.

Dadipentak : would be great to have a bird like that around the backyard. For photography at least. Well caught.

Seacapt : They are great closeup shots, mate. Particularly like the second shot. Love the colour of the grasshead.

Tom : a beautiful waterbird shot that. Up to your usually high quality birdshots.

Thanks, Bruce--and thanks for hosting! It s a fine start, I think. I just hope folks don't get the idea that it has to be birds. We've got some fine ones, though: there's a quality in Tom's birds--like that heron-- that always blows me away.

Bruce, thanks for hosting this week.

I went for a walk with my 500mm Tamron mirror, and here are a couple I got. I'm also going to post them in the mirror club.

Thanks for the comments Bruce and Dave, I was pretty stoked to get so close to a green heron saturday and then again this a.m. he was so busy catching minnows he didn't pay much attention to me. I wish the light was better though.

I agree, a great start to the week. I enjoy browsing the shots in every POTW, and already this week is no exception.

Eccs19 : I was always very skeptical of mirror lenses, however looking at those shots, I may have to rethink a little. Beautiful shots, nice colour.

Tom, those are great action shots of the football. And I like the deep colours. Well done.

One from me. I was testing out a Takumar 28-80 that I was given. This shot is a little noisey but otherwise, a very potentially usable lens.

I just got my first macro lens (the Cosina 100mm 3.5, Promaster brand). I never realized how thin the DOF is with a macro. I'm surely going to need to practice. Here's a couple just playing around.
