Picture of the Week 103: February 21, 2010 to March 7, 2010
Posted By: Tamia, 02-27-2010, 06:23 PM

Hey all, we're now on the 103rd edition of the POTW!

Photolady, our previous host, passed the baton to me last, and I can say I'm humbled! This is the first time I've hosted POTW, or anything on this great forum.

We've posted a lot of great pictures last week, so let's get psyched to surpass last week's showing. Spring's in the air here in the northern hemisphere, and I know you Pentaxians down in the southern hemisphere are heading toward autumn. Changes of season are always great for photo shoots. So what do you say? Let's share round a few shots of what's happening where we all live.

I extend a particular welcome to everyone who's new to the Pentax forum. You'll find a friendly bunch here, folks who are always willing to extend a hand and offer encouragement. So don't be shy about sending in a few of your pictures. We share a common interest after all.

Feel free to post your photos from this coming week, as well as this last week!

Again same rules and really other than time frames, there are no rules:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.

2) Let's keep it to about 4-6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsug DSLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR

4) Date: Sunday February 21, 2010 to Sunday March 7, 2010. Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via PM. If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between 12:00EST and 5PM EST on the Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Previous hosts: Each one is a hotlink to that POTW thread to look past at the previous 97 weeks. 1 Peter Zack, 2Eaglerapids 3 rmtagg, 4 Peter Zack, 5 daacon, 6 Bramela, 7 mtnbearhug, 8 dantuyhoa, 9 gawan,10 roentarre, 11 daacon, 12 Kris, 13 mtnbearhug, 14 SCGushue, 15 daacon, 16 maxwell1295, 17 dantuyhoa, 18 daacon, 19 maxwell1295 19(2) daacon, 20 Bramela, 21 Syb, 22 maxwell1295, 23 maxwell1295, 24 dantuyhoa, 25 Gawan, 26 Peter Zack, 27 borno, 28 daacon, 29 gawan, 30 Damn Brit, 31 maxwell1295 32 maxwell1295 , 33 dantuyhoa, 34 daacon, 35 Peter Zack, 36 Damn Brit, 37 Borno, 38 Kevint, 39 Peter Zack, 40 Timbo13, 41 daacon, 42 daacon, 43 gawan, 44 dantuyhoa, 45 daacon, 46 Rense, 47 daacon, 48 Rense, 49 borno, 50 Rense, 51 daacon, 52 Peter Zack, 53 Peter Zack, 54 dadipentax, 55 David Whiteley, 56 planedriver, 57 daacon,58 Bramela, 59 daacon, 60 gawan, 61 virgilr, 62 daacon, 63 RickL, 64 Peter Zack, 65 Peter Zack, 66 Causey 67 daacon, 68 Bramela, 69 georgeweb, 70 daacon, 71 seacapt, 72 daacon, 73 AOski, 74 Rense 75 eccs19, 76 daacon, 77 xs400, 78 daacon, 79 Bramela, 80 borno, 81 legacyb4, 82 daacon, 83 gawan, 84 Rense, 85 Peter Zack, 86 davef, 87 davef, 88 xjjohnno 89 Bramela , 90 Peter Zack, 91 daacon, 92 stevebrot ,93 reeftool, 94 jezza323, 95 oldschool, 96 Iris, 97 Rense, 98 planedriver, 99 xs400, 100 Peter Zack, 101 Netuser 102 Photolady, 103 Tamia

Tamia thanks for hosting this week's POTW. It looks a bit chilly in your part of the world.
Some pics from my Sunday walk in the park.

First POW

So here is my first POW. I went for a little drive yesterday and came across a few things to shoot. Here is one I like.

POTW

Here are a couple from a pretty slow day up here in Maine.
The first little punk rocker is with a DA55-300 and the second is with a Mamiya 400mm frankenlens.
I am starting to like the Mamiya after almost permanently shelving it. It is turning out to be an ok expenditure of $31.50 (Ebay).

OK, I'm going to break the rules and post 3 pics that were not taken with a Pentax camera. I got these shots today with my Panasonic P&S. I guess I was also a bad boy because I was out on my motorcycle again. Heck, it was just 10 days ago I got out of surgery to fix my broken shoulder. Anyway, I guess I just can get riding out of my system. Maybe shot #3 says it all, I just keep thinking of twisty roads.

All these shots were taken on the back roads of San Francisco Peninsula. I like these roads because they are nearly empty of traffic.

Nomad: !!!!! That shot is amazing! seriously, i love it. I'll send you $50 for that lens if that's the kind of shot it's able to produce! (i would have offered more, but i have to buy new tires for my car since i got a flat a couple of hours ago)

xs400: Love the shots of your bike and the windy roads.

Here's a shot i took last night which i was pretty happy with. if you'd like to critique the photo itself, i'll be posting it in the critique section because i'd like to know what i could have done to improve the image....

Tamia - Thanks for hosting this week. I like the Drawing shot, very nice. Well composed.

xjjohnno - Nice series. I like the Austin Healey 3000 in #3. I had 2 Austin Healey Sprites when I was younger and always wanted a 3000. That's a nice one.

Jimbow007 - Excellent capture of the deer, maybe a little dark, but still well done.

Nomad - I really like that seagull, very sharp. And it looks like he's looking right into the camera.

irishwhite - Very neat and moody shot. I like it.

Frank we somehow managed to time our Sunday walk in the park with a local British auto club drive through, hence the Sprite pic. Missed a few good pics of the cars as I was using the Bigma as a 500mm prime. Add vehicles going the other way and blocking out targeted vehicles.

I finally got some photos to upload.

First, Thanks for hosting Tamia. I really like your drawing photo. Is that a rabbit?

xjjohnno, Love the second one. Took me a second to see the bird, he's well hidden. And your steering wheels are on the wrong side. LOL

James, nice deer shot.

Nomad, good shots of the duck and gull.

Frank thanks for sharing your ride and your ride.

Irishwite, I really like that shot. Love the mood of it.

My brother came and picked me up today so I could go pay some bills, then we picked up some lunch and took a ride over to "bird island" where I shot some Pelicans flying low.

Here's the first one:

2.

Then we went to a park where I used to ride my bicycle. And shot this bird, the Great Blue Heron:

Thanks xjjohnno, Frank, and Photolady. The drawing is of a chipmunk, Photolady. She was made nearly blind in one eye by a cat attack, and I helped her recover. Love your pelican and heron photos! What lens did you use?

xjjohnno, nice shots of olde cars, and the birds are super.

James, welcome to POTW, and it's great you were able to get so detailed a photo of the deer. Is it a "red deer"?

Nomad, wonderful photos of the 'ganser and the gull.

Frank, I'm jealous of your roads, and the 'bike is a beaut.

Irishwite, that photo is so evocative. Very good.

Thanks for the compliments. I'm still trying to get use to my Bigma. Just picked it up in Janurary.
I'm still working on getting my pictures as sharp as all of the ones I see here on POTW. All of you have great shots.

Thanks Tamia, I used my Sigma 70-300mm at 300mm. I also set this lens in Macro mode. It seems to get closer to the birds I shoot.

Thanks also for the explanation on the chipmunk. And for healing it back to health.

Some pics from my bonding with recently acquired Cosinon 55mm f1.2, all taken wide open hence the fuzziness, or was that my eyes?
