Red Ants
| Description |
I am calling them Red Ants because that is the nearest thing to them in the "National Audubon Field Guide to North American Insects and Spiders".
I baited them with a scrap of pork fat so its whiteness would contrast the ants. I first tried a piece of meat, but it was too close to the color of the ants.
Mounting the camera on a tripod with the head between the legs made it possible to hold it steady and not be too close to the ants.
This is one of the first shots with my new AF160FC Ring Flash, which works TTL with the K20D. The modeling light is a great aid to focusing. Since the flash provided lots of light, I used ISO100, shutter speed 1/180, and f32 for maximum detail and depth of field.
