Title Broad-tailed hummingbird
Description Female broad-tailed hummingbird approaches the feeder unchallenged. Yesterday three of them were fighting for control of two feeders.

Usually I shoot hummingbirds with a 300mm telephoto lens. Today I decided to try it with the ultra-wide DA 15mm Limited. I positioned the camera on a tripod near the feeder, carefully framing the feeder between the trees. While I was setting up, a hummingbird arrived but I wasn't ready to grab a shot. Once I was ready, I had to wait in the hot sun for 10 minutes or so until this hummer arrived. I really should learn how to do catch-in focus.

I used manual focus with mirror locked up, releasing the shutter with a cable release.

Broad-tailed hummingbird

Nice shot! I like shooting (with camera) hummingbirds. I'll have to try your method (mirror locked up and cable release) and see how it works for me. Thanks for sharing.
