Bighorns at Rock Cut, Rocky Mountain National Park
| Description |
Got into the park not long after dawn, drove straight up Trail Ridge Rd to Rock Cut (about 12000 ft above sea level) near a viewing point called "Top of the World." Turned a corner and saw four bighorn sheep rams crossing the road. Since there was virtually nobody else around, and since I didn't do anything to spook them, the bighorns seemed fairly comfortable and allowed me to take a number of shots. This one was taken with the early morning light coming up over a mountain peak behind me as I shot. I'd taken my Tamron f/2.8 lens as I knew the light would be low and I wasn't expecting to shoot wildlife at all - certainly not anything at a distance. Got the wildlife and got it up close, so the lens worked great.
