Haligoland - in German "Helgoland" - is an Island in the North Sea with a colony of breeding gannets, the only place in Germany where one can see these birds on a regular basis. It is accessible by boat or plane and due to the lay-out of the land it is possible to get quite close to the birds. This is from a visit in 2011.
