In the spotlight
| Description |
American Flamingos. The spotlighting effect was achieved in camera; the birds are standing in a shallower area that appears brighter due to sun reflection off the bottom. The effect is exaggerated by the very low (and painful!) position from which the photo was taken, leaning over the side of the boat with my camera nearly kissing the water. Many thanks to birding guide Diego Nuņez for getting me into position while ensuring we didn't disturb the birds. My gratitude also to the PEG judges for constructive advice on composition and colour balance in the sky, which I have implemented in this resubmission.
