Title Breakaway layup
Description I spent most of Saturday the 23rd at my sons' basketball tournament. Here's just one shot of hundreds, of their team's point guard making a nice basket after my son grabbed a rebound and threw it down court. They won the tournament too, so it was a great day photographically and for the team!

Breakaway layup

Hi . What were the best setting you found for indoor basketball. I noticed you used f2.8 , 1/320, iso 1000 . Did you find you had to go to 1/320 and 1000 iso to get a sharp picture . I noticed at his hand and the other guys foot was bluing even at 1/320. What speed do you have to have to get a blur free picture . I'm a amateur and I'm getting this lens for Christmas . That's why I'm asking . Thanks .

Actually, that was ISO 10,000, not 1,000. I could have frozen the action more at 1/400th or 1/500th, but then I would have had to bump up the ISO to 12,800 or 16,000. That would have increased noise even more than what I was getting at 10,000. It's all a compromise, and I liked what I was getting at 1/320th well enough to stick with it for most of the shots. You can adjust the tradeoffs to suit your situation and your tastes.

The key thing is that lens (or something equivalent). You can't get shots like this without f/2.8 or a similarly fast lens. I haven't tried the Tamron 70-200 f/2.8, but I've been happy with the performance of my Sigma.
