Title Bullfinch Eating
Description Just got a "new" lens and this is one of my first shots with it.
Nice that an old manual lens can compete with the best.

The Bullfinch didnt know any manners at all. I tried to tell him to close his mouth while eating.....

Bullfinch Eating

This was one of my attempt to get a shot into the PEG gallery and I, as usually, find the judges comments amuzing and very contradictory so I decided to post them below.

Btw.
This is shot in the woods behind my countryhouse and definetly NOT in some zoo. The Bullfinch is most definetly a wild one and very very shy.

Enjoy.

Nicely taken shot, in the line of so many bird shots. i wonder if this bird is in the wild. ------------------

All photos must stand out in terms of composition, and also be flawless in this Pentax Exclusive Gallery (PEG). Need more be said. ------------------

Wow! Lovely capture, such a colourful bird, and lovely bokeh too. ------------------

intriguing shot, point of focus is a bit too much to the front, background is disturbing ------------------

Very nice picture, like it ! ------------------

Possibly in a zoo? background is very busy. ------------------

the focus is sharper at its feet than the head. ------------------

Excellent colour, bokeh, composition and focus. ------------------

Good colors. Composition needs adjusting. ------------------

Brilliant! ------------------

A square crop would have eliminated all the space on the left and the distracting highlights. ------------------

interesting pose for the bullfinch nice work w/ focus bokeh looks good ------------------

Very good environmental portrait composition for the bird. Good inclusion of tree branches and blurred background, while keeping it natural. Good placement in frame. ------------------

Nicely done ------------------

Unfortunately, the bullfinch is not completely in focus. The portions of the bird in front of and behind the "band" is not also sharply focused. ------------------

Good photo...colours of the bird really pop...that bokeh is nice. ------------------

I love everything about it. A winner, good luck! ------------------

This is a nice shot, reasonably sharp. The open mouth at first is a little odd, but it gives the photo a story. The back appears a little sharper than the eye, but without an aperture it is hard to tell whether a smaller aperture would bring more into real sharp focus. The colour is beautiful and the background is blurred nicely. ------------------

Nice shot, but distracting background, and back view of bird is not ideal. ------------------

nice sharp image of the Finch. it is nothing special as far as wildlife or ornithological images goes but it is well composed. I think If I was going to try to offer this for commercial use I would consider removing the right hand out of focus leaves and branches , that would leave a good area for editorial text. ------------------

This is quite a decent overall photo, but in my mind the bird is too far to the left in the frame. If you drew an imaginary vertical line down the center and aligned the right side of the body/beak with that line, then that to me would be perfect subject placement in this photo. So it's just a little off in my mind at this point. Even a vertical crop would be an improvement. ------------------

A very nice bird photo. The composition is very good, the colors work well together, and the bokeh is very pleasing. Could be used in a reference book or to hang on your wall. ------------------
