This lonely tower is from the 12'th century and the church itself has been demolished in 1905. It stands on a small man made hill that is called a 'terp'. Back in the day the sea had the nasty habit of coming far further inland than the people cared for. The terp was the main defense to survive a flooding before somebody got the bright idea (and the organizational skills) to build a dike.
