The Halifax Harbourwalk is a scenic boardwalk that runs from the cruise ship terminal, past the Seaport Market, through downtown to an heritage district called Historic Properties and then on to the Casino (if you're feeling lucky!) Just opposite the folks on this bench is Georges Island (named for King George II) with its defence battery called Fort Charlotte (George's wife). From the time of the American Revolution to World War II, the island was one of several positions that protected the approaches to the much larger Halifax Citadel (which you can locate on the map below).
