Swans at Sundown
| Description |
The last thing I did at the end of a long day of shooting birds along the shores of Lake Erie was take the auto tour through Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge. This is a drive at your own pace tour through several miles of the Refuge, places that aren't always accessible. I had went earlier in the day and decided it would be a good way to end the day, better light and possibly more wildlife out. A couple hundred yards from the end of the route a saw a couple of cars parked by a path and decided to stop, I knew there was a lake back there because you got a glimpse of it from a distance earlier. Walking back I met some people coming out and they tipped me off that there were Sandhill Cranes that you could see on an island. Sandhill Cranes are pretty rare in this part of the country, I saw the cranes way off in the distance to the Northeast, too far to get a decent photo. Then I looked the toward the West and saw this beautiful glistening reflections of the sinking sunlight on the water with two Trumpeter Swans swimming. It was my favorite view of the day.
