Title 100% crop of my newest neighbor
Description 100% crop of my newest neighbor (click for 100% view)

This wasp was quite intent on building on my front porch, and so thankfully didn't mind posing for me.

1/180s f/6.7 ISO 200 Pentax K100d

The overhang makes the porch quite dark, and so I used the built-in flash for fill - which unfortunately is quite visible in the wasp's right eye(s).

In retrospect I would have used a slightly greater DOF, an external flash & foam bounce card, and possibly some spray. :-)

Comments and suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

Can't wait for the paper wasps to come back building on the right side of the house, as they chose to return right above our entrance.....big mistake, big, huge!
Built-in flash work quite well if you cut a hole in a hefty cereal bowl and use it as a white "hood around your lens.
