The 50mm 1.4 is a fine portrait lens. The 1.7 is probably better as a walking around lens, and is probably sharper, especially beyond 10 feet.
The humans in my house refused to act as subjects for my new camera/lens, but the 12 year old house rabbit cooperated. I hope to post some photos of humans, soon.
Note the shallow depth of field. I used the built in flash, SR turned off.
